The mock Tudor facade blends in well with the surroundings. We stayed here for two nights. Greeted warmly at reception and check went smoothly, booked times slots for breakfast each day. On entering our room, I was pleasantly surprised on the size of the room. Furniture/bed were of a good standard and condition. The shower was very good. Can be a tad noisey when other guest shut thier doors. The closers are pretty strong and being a heavy fire door, can shut with a resounding that. Breakfast was efficient on the first day but a lot slower on seconding day. Maybe because hotel was very busy and slowly ramping upto speed. Staff great and value for money. Plenty of hand sanitizers but need to take tempretures.

We have just returned from a weekend break and I have to say we had a fantastic stay. It was booked through Groupon for 3 couples and we also had the afternoon tea, also through Groupon. The afternoon tea was fantastic, plenty of it and I think a real bargain for what we paid. Our room was fine, clean, spacious with a very comfy bed - although a little on the hot side as we were unable to turn off the rad in the bathroom also equipped with a hairdryer, iron, trouser press and even an ironing board. Breakfast was a little slow on the Sunday but worth the wait .I will however say that the evening menu, although very tasty was very limited, about 5 dishes to chose from, as a starter we had the bread and oils which turned out to be toast and oil - not overly impressed with that! We would have eaten the second night if the menu had had more options. The garden was lovely with plenty of seating and the drinks really reasonably priced. I must say though, the absolute gem of this hotel is the staff - the customer service here is impeccable and possibly the best I have ever come across. Our waiter Madeline was suburb and a real credit to this hotel, an extremely pleasant, friendly young man and nothing was ever too much trouble, he was a true gentleman, something you don't see very much of anymore. Thank you for a great weekend and we look forward to returning again very soon :-)

*Nice stay and picturesque! But has some negatives* Me and my partner spent two nights here with afternoon tea through an activity store voucher which was worth £140.00. I brought this just before lockdown hit us so it was great to finally use! Booking this with Thatchers Hotel was easy! But the email confirmation was confusing as they stated the stay was only worth £77.00 + afternoon tea approx £30.00. I felt this wasn’t the best value for what the voucher was worth so I queried it. After many emails back and forth they upgraded our room to an ‘executive room’. I felt this was a good compromise as I wanted to value of the voucher to reflect our stay. When we arrived the check in was quick and the lady on reception was okay. Very slap dash and off we went to our room. Well, definitely wasn’t an executive room. More like a below standard room and needed a good clean! Really dusty and very bare essentials, and not all the amenities were present. No coffee machine with pods, but yet we had 2 paper cups for the tea. With room service available, I’m not sure why we couldn’t have actual mugs in the room?? Made no sense. Unfortunately didn’t rate the room at all, so not the greatest start. We had breakfast booked for the morning and also a dinner booked for that evening in the hotel restaurant. The menu was very small with only 5 meals to choose from, which was a bit of a bummer! We decided to order some ‘Bread & oils’ to start with. Pretty shocked when it arrived at the table.. 3 slices of toast with a pot of olive oil. And we had to privilege of paying £4.50 for it as well. But overall the main meals we had were lovely, but a tad overpriced for what we received. Breakfast came around the next morning as we booked in for 9:30am. When we arrived at the restaurant there was a really long queue and only 3 members of staff working. I did really feel for them! Running around like crazy people trying to facilitate a whole hotel of people wanting their breakfast at the same time due to serving by table service only (no buffet like they usually do). From finally sitting down to finishing our breakfast it had taken 1.5hrs. But the breakfast was worth the wait, and hats off to the wait staff for doing their best! Afternoon tea was amazing. Great selection of sandwiches and cakes. But be aware, Prosecco is extra!! Even though it’s advertised as included you will get charged £6 a glass if you agree to having a glass (which you think is included to begin with!) Overall I’d give the stay 6.5 out of 10. Some staff were friendly, especially ‘Madalin’. He is a credit to the hotel! But you could definitely tell they were running on skeleton staff. I’m just glad this was a voucher gift and didn’t have to pay outright for this stay.

We have just returned from The Thatcher's near Guildford with a groupon voucher and it was the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel. Yes it was a good offer but the room was tired, stale smell and carpet was worn out. The bathroom has a shower over a bath that you needed to hurdle over and the toilet seat was coming off then on the second night the toilet stopped working. This picturesque hotel should offer a lot more but it doesn't unless you stay in the refurnished side but having said that we had to queue for breakfast for half an hour then another half hour before it came out and that was the first day. The second day we gave up and started to walk out when it arrived, cold! Yes it was a good deal but we would not have stayed if we knew the real truth. Why don't the owners just sell nights in the refurbished rooms and leave the others until they can be refurbished as the reviews will mirror my experience from the conversations people where having and people will not come back.

Friendliest and most attentive staff. Lovely atmosphere in bar and restaurant. We chose the Haddock and Chips for our main meal. Perfectly cooked and excellent value Our waiter from Romania was charming and could not have been more helpful. Our room was clean and spacious and extremely comfortable
