We stayed for 2 nights at the George Inn in Castleton. I feel I am having to write this because of the poor service and standards we experienced whilst staying there. I would summarise the service we received as follows: • We were asked to pay our bill as we arrived – I would have expected to pay at the...

The beer was ok but the food was very disappointing and the staff were not very friendly. There was food missing from our order and it felt like when we asked about it, we were being inconvenient to the staff. In fact, we had eyes rolled at us. The pub looks promising from the outside but it is hugely deceptive.

My husband is not a fussy eater but it's the first time I've seen him leave food - ordered a lamb and black pudding pie - it was microwaved but not hot with soggy pastry served with oven chips and inedible veg - really revolting - waitress 'is everything ok with your meal?' We gave feedback to which she didn't...

My son and I were looking for somewhere to eat in the early evening. After walking around the various pubs we decided on the George. A mistake. The bar maid knew nothing of the various beers, including supposed real ales. Just after I had ordered and paid for our food the landlord came from behind the bar and basically told...

I visited the George Inn Eccleshall today for a pint and a light bite. The George has always been excellent for both real ale and food having been the tap for Slaters Brewery. I was disappointed to find no Slaters beers on the bar so I asked what had happened. I was informed that there had been a change of...

We stayed here in December having been let down by another hotel. We were a little desperate to find somewhere to stay and, having read previous reviews, we weren't expecting much from The George. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. I agree that the hotel itself is a little tired and in need of some refurbishment, but my overall impression...

There's lots to say about this hotel. After reading all the more recent reviews I wasn't looking forward to my visit here. However it's no where near as bad as made out. Yes the rooms are very tired and need a lot of work to bring them up to scratch but I have stayed in worse. The beds are solid...

Stayed here in July for the weekend. My single room was dusty and dated, the wardrobe smelt very musty so I opted not to use it. The bathroom was tiny with 20 dead wasps on the bathroom on the windowsill which I cleaned up. There is no Wi-Fi only right next to the reception desk so I couldn't face time...

I stayed at this hotel on the 12 July to attend a local wedding. I found the staff very nice and helpful I feel that the 2 previous reviews were extremely harsh given that full refunds and partial refunds were given. I work in complaints and know how that works! My room was large, clean and yes it was hot..but air...

We were staying at the hotel as we were attending a wedding nearby. We arrived to an empty reception, eventually a young girl who seemed who possessed all the customer service skills of a rattlesnake checked us in. We were given a large spacious room on the 1st floor, unfortunately this was all it had going for it, it was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a small inn within the village of Eccleshall, we do have wi fi access in public areas but unfortunately to the building being so old and with thick walls we cannot guarantee that wi fi is available in all rooms. We have a large bar area serving food every day and a restaurant for those who wish to try something a little different. We have 6 beers on handpull with a large selection of lagers, ciders and soft drinks. For those who wish we also have a cocktail menu. We do occasionally have live music on ... more   less
