The hotel was easy to find, no parking however which was not obvious when booking. Plenty of pay and displays nearby. We had early check in due to the wedding we were attending starting at time of check in (2pm). Room was fine, double bed, tv, tea and coffee. Very thick quilt - I am a heavy sleeper but did... More

We stayed in the Bear about 6 years ago and had a very enjoyable stay, so as we were back in the area we decided to stay for another weekend. The place has improved so much and you can obviously tell they have spent quite a lot of money on modernisation. The food was top quality and the service was... More

Downstairs the food and service in the restaurant is second to none. We have now eaten here twice and not been disappointed. However our stay in the hotel part was extremely disappointing,. Although clean, the room was tiny, the size of a single bedroom in my house, and they had two beds in it. The bathroom was also very small.... More

We stayed 2 nights in July 2016. Check in went smoothly and the receptionist was very pleasant. We were directed to room no 31 which was accessed through a very depressing courtyard which frankly was not very clean. Our room however was spotless apart from a thick layer of dust on the window blinds. We could live with that. The... More

Lovely friendly hotel right in the centre of Wantage with an excellent restaurant attached (seperate review). We stayed for two nights in a double room which was very pleasant. Not noisy at all as no main roads close by and everything very clean. Breakfast was very nice with contintental buffet and the option of cooked breakfasts as well. Very enjoyable... More

This an old building showing some signs of wear but quite comfortable. Generally very clean though some of the public areas could do with a bit of a refurb. Dinner was good with good service. Parking is close by and reasonably priced.

Lovely friendly hotel, nice bar and restaurant with attentive staff. Breakfast was a nice experience and the staff had a 'nothing was too much trouble' attitude. The room however left much to be desired. It may have been mid refurbishment or just appeared to be. The bathroom door was very low and with no warnings gave me stars in my... More

Although we have lived in Wantage for many years and now moved away we had never stayed in the Bear before. The room was very clean as was the ensuite. The towels were very white and reasonably soft, the bed was very comfortable. Tea making facilities in the room, no phone so unable to contact reception if needed, and no... More
