Once a fine Regency residence, the hotel is situated in the beautiful market town of Faringdon, close to Oxford, Shrivenham and Swindon. Surrounded by nine acres of landscaped gardens,Sudbury House can offer a quiet break away from it all, yet still being close to local businesses and towns, including RAF Brize Norton, Cranfield University and the Defence Academy.Close to the main Swindon to Oxford Road, the A420, the hotel is within easy access of the M4 and M40. Refurbished and redecorated completely in 2015, the Sudbury House is a great base for the Oxfordshire and Wiltshire counties.

We treated ourselves to a suite as we wanted to relax and spend time away from lots of people. It had a great spacious bedroom, bathroom and lounge area. Tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The bedroom overlooked the grounds. The whole hotel was very clean. We chose not to have our room cleaned daily so people were not coming in. The housekeeping staff were happy to leave any supplies we needed outside the door. We had a couple of issues with our room which were dealt with efficiently and quickly by Jane. I see that lack of heating is a theme. Our sitting room was cold but an electric heater was available. Unfortunately the wifi was poor in out suite and is not suitable if you want to do any work in the room. We found the staff very hardworking and friendly. At times they seemed to be short staffed, probably due to Covid restrictions. This was especially felt with the cooking as we had many issues with our meals. Communication between the waiting staff and chef did appear to be problematic, possible related to wearing masks. Even given the Covid restrictions I felt the limits of the menu was too constrained as it did not change over the week. We did enjoy the full English breakfast. They were happy to provide me with beans on toast. The hotel is covid secure with sanitizer available for guests around the premises. There was good spacing between the tables and only once did I feel there was too many people in the breakfast room and the door should have been open for ventilation. If we had not had problems with many times getting the wrong food ordered a better score would have been given. The food was delicious though if a little pricey.

Stayed for one night .Wish it could have been longer. Check in was slow but only because of a resident griping about one thing or another.Obviously after a discount. Good COVID precautions in place. The lovely lady on reception kept calm and professional throughout despite the queue forming. Room was lovely.Tastefully furnished and very clean. Tea and coffee facilities available as well as bottled water Bath was big .Toiletries provided. No toilet brush tho? We went to the bar.Service was quick even though the poor lady serving was on her own. We went for food and again service was excellent. Food was gorgeous. We even got Happy birthday and Happy Anniversary written on our plates in chocolate ! Bar closed at ten but that eas no problem. The only gripe we had was the heat. Ive seen a few reviews that said hotel was too cold so maybe that was why. We loved are stay and will definitely return

Lovely hotel with helpful staff but the food certainly didn’t live up to the the two rosette standard advertised. For breakfast there was only a choice of a Full English or Vegetarian Full English- but as they ran out vegetarian sausages the vegetarian option just ended up the same as a full English but without the bacon or sausage! The food in the evening was nice but nowhere near the 2 rosette standard promised ( although the desserts were all amazing!) The rooms were all nice and clean, as was all the public areas. Although it was good to see the hotel had made lots of changes in line with government regulations regarding Covid, the tables in the restaurant were so far apart it completely lacked atmosphere. Overall a nice hotel but food was a disappointment.

Dear Annaredbourn1, We appreciate you taking the time to review the hotel. Please accept my apologies for the issues in the restaurant during your stay, but glad to hear you enjoyed some lovely desserts. Due to the current government guidelines and ensuring social distancing our tables are spaced out to ensure that not only are guests distanced but staff can move about the room safely. The safety of our guests and staff are of the utmost importance. We hope to welcome you back in the future to improve upon your experience. Best Wishes Sudbury House Hotel

We went for a family weekend away to celebrate an elderly member’s birthday. Of course we are understand that due to the current times hotels and restaurants can not operate at full capacity or provide the services they perhaps use to. However, the operation at this restaurant was far from sub standard. Checking in was frustrating due to slow service. More so, being served a cold English breakfast two days in a row was shocking considered we had informed the team after the first one that it was cold to then be served it again that way the next day. At dinner, one member of our party requested a “naked burger”, explaining that she could not eat the bun but would like everything else. She was given a plain burger (just the meat) and some coleslaw. No cheese or salad that everyone else whom ordered the burger received on theirs. We really understand the strain hotels and restaurants must be under, and that no establishment can operate the way they hope to do so. However, standards should not slide that far. The staff seemed inattentive, apart from one on the bar who actually recovered the evening for us. We hope that the hotel works out how to better adjust to the current lifestyle because it had potential to be lovely.

Stayed here for two nights in September. Upon arrival we noticed all Covid procedures in place, receptionist checked all details and explained where our room was. The room was a good size and everything in place, we did however notice a cobweb on the ceiling. The bed was comfortable and we had two good nights sleep. We dined out the first night and reception booked a taxi for us which was appreciated. Breakfast was adequate although through a mistake on first morning we waited a long time. We dined in the Magnolia restaurant the second night, the food was nice if a little expensive for what was served. I think the biggest problem throughout our stay was not enough staff, they were having to work between the reception, the bar and the restaurant which inevitably lead to having to wait for service in the bar for a long time. Overall a reasonable place to stay and would have been marked higher had there been more staff to carry out a proper service, if coming to the area again we would probably book here again.
