We found the food rather bland, uninteresting and overpriced. None of the main courses came with any potatoes or vegetables included in the meal. We also felt the older of the two waitresses serving on the night we were there, had a unwelcoming manner at times.

We booked a table to meet a friend for lunch with our 2 dogs. The service was excellent with the waitress giving us time between courses for a breather break and catch up. She was busy and coped very well on her own. The food was very good, sea bass fillets, battered haddock and burger all cooked perfectly. Enough room for puds and the lemon meringue parfait and sticky toffee pudding were delicious. Would recommend - even gave us biscuits for our dogs.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. The location is perfect in easy walking distance from the station and bus stops, and to local restaurants, bars and sights of interest. The staff were exceptional in making us feel welcome and Covid safe. The breakfast menu was particularly good with a range of choices. We had dinner two nights and this again was good and the pan seared salmon and medley of green veg was the best I’ve ever had. The room (3) was spacious and included a couple of easy chairs, decent hairdryer and an iron and ironing board. The beds were comfortable and the all white linen was sparkling. The window boxes were especially a lovely touch when looking through the windows. The bathroom was modern with a walk in shower that had a good flow and plenty of hot water. Good supply of tea, coffee and milk and daily fresh fruit was thoughtful. The hotel is a listed building and is therefore individual and unique in style which definitely adds to its charm. Will stay there again!!

Stayed two nights here but wish we’d booked or longer. An old grade 2 listed family run hotel. Owner and manager Gary described at ‘unpretentious’, and sure it’s not smart or ultra modern, but it is very comfortable. As we arrived, passing the grander looking Kings Hotel I thought I’d made a mistake. But no. Our spacious room was very comfortable and well provided with drinks and snacks, and a spacious modern en suite with good quality towels. The corridor to it reflected the old nature of the building. The location is perfect, just beside the town walls. Breakfasts were terrific and of very good quality - really far better than the other more upmarket hotels that were part of our trip. Covid precautions were thorough. Gary is supported by an excellent team in the personable and welcoming Kat and Heather, and their unnamed chef. I have no hesitation in recommending.

We've just returned from a very enjoyable couple of nights stay at the Queen's Head. This is a small hotel and restaurant. Our room was very comfortable and had a really good shower! Covid arrangements were fine as far as I was concerned, safe without being over the top. We ate in the restaurant both nights, and the food was very good. The breakfasts were lovely too - I recommend the kippers!
