We stayed in the red room for 4 nights as we walked the coast path. Great location as the bus stopped right outside. The room facilities were very good quality, lovely soft white linen on bed with two comfortable armchairs and good choice of hot drinks in room. Guests are welcome to use the garden seating to enjoy glass wine... More

This was the cleanest and most comfortable of all the guest houses which we stayed in during our tour of Northhumberland and the Lake district. The home cooked food was exellent and Amanda and Steve are exelent hosts. Ask Amanda for one of her flapjacks they are good.

Ah but you don't need to ask for the flapjacks. They are in all the rooms and topped up each day. Thank you for the review and we hope you will come back to us soon. More

Arrived to be greeted by both Amanda, who provided freshly made home baked tea loaf, and Steve who showed us to our room and was a great source of info for local places to visit/eat etc. Both are perfect hosts. We stayed in the 'Blue Room' which is at the front of the house and is spacious and extremely comfortable.... More

Thank you for such a lovely review. Being able to provide information to our guests helps us make sure they enjoy their stay in North Northumberland and see what the area has to offer. Like yourselves, so many people realise fairly quickly that a return visit is needed for all the places they didn't get to the first time. Our... More

Having stayed previously at The Market Cross, we had great expectation on our recent return of the high standards we might experience and, predictably, we were not disappointed. Northumberland is a simply stunning area of the country on so many counts, and so it is only fitting surely that this quality should be reflected in a top class example of... More

Thank you so much. It was such a pleasure seeing you both again and knowing we met your expectations once more makes all the difference. Next time you come you will see some more changes as we start another round of refurbishment on some of the bathrooms at the end of the year. We are looking forward to your next... More

We spent a short break at the Market Cross Guest House and can concur with the majority of reviewers. Amanda and Steve are excellent hosts and do what they can to make ones stay comfortable. Amanda is a great cook and you can rely upon a good meal be it breakfast or dinner. I can understand why guests return regularly.

Thank you for your review. We have an increasing list of return guests who, we know, come back to us for many reasons. Amandas cooking is certainly one of them and the relaxed atmosphere and our attention to detail are a couple of others we feel make a difference. We hope you wil come back and see us again. More

Spent (unfortunately just) one night here en route to the Amsterdam ferry at Newcastle. It is difficult to put in words the quality of this accommodation - the attention to detail is greater than in some 5 star hotels! Beautiful bedrooms with exquisite furnishings, Nespresso coffee machine, home made flapjacks, Lindisfarne mead, luxury toiletries and a flask of fresh milk.... More

Hopefully you will be able to come back to us and see some more of North Northumberland and of course sample a bit more of Market Cross. We try to imagine what we would want in a guest house and then make sure it is available for our guests which is why we thought of the "I've forgotten my..." drawer.... More

Really enjoyed our visit! Spent two nights here and have never felt more welcomed. Steve and Amanda were really friendly and more than helpful, they recommended places to visit in the area & venues to eat. We stayed in the luxury double room and it was beautiful, clean and homely, and we were provided with homemade flapjack on a daily... More

Thank you Beth. Yes, the flapjacks do seem to be a bit of a favourite so we don't see them going anywhere and the pancakes are popular so they will be staying too. We look forward to your next visit. More

I stayed at Market Cross for one night at the end of a walking tour around the Northumberland coast. We were greeted with cake and Lindisfarne Mead and I slept in the Red bedroom. Every last detail is considered in the pursuit of guest comfort and a wonderful over night experience. The bed was more comfortable than my bed at... More

We do get asked where our mattresses come from more often than you would think and we are always happy to tell our guests. Our beds have to be comfortable, its in the title "Bed" and breakfast. The other important thing for us is our food. We really do pride ourselves on the fact that we make so much ourselves.... More

Myself & 3 friends stayed at Market Cross for our final night's stay in Northumberland after completing part of the Northumberland coastal walk. Amanda & Steve were so welcoming when we arrived, weary after a long days walk from Seahouses. Amanda took her time explaining how everything worked & brought us homemade cake whilst we settled in. The rooms were... More
