Hotel in need of a refurbishment. Terrible room - No 2. The shower dribbled warm water. Wallpaper marked and peeling in places. Carpet dirty. Wire cables all around the room. Feel sorry for the staff who are trying very hard to sort everything out.

Three of us stayed in the annex room. On entering, there was pile of dirty laundry and no kettle. This was soon rectified but despite clean sheets the room was damp with little ventilation. We ate in the bar and despite the fairly high priced menu the food was dreadful. It seemed that everything was deep fried and the quality of the produce was low. Scotch egg was just a picnic egg oozing with fat as it had been bathing in warm oil.The lasagne contained slabs of beefburger meat and the "dirty burger" itself was tough and dry and the accompanying "salad" was swimming in runny cheese sauce. Breakfast was just about ok. Staff were pleasant enough but there seems to be little in the way of order or quality control. Apart from the food the hotel was quite cheap so maybe you get what you pay for.

Four of us visited for a meal and we won’t be returning. On arrival no one available in bar or restaurant. Staff were trying to be helpful but were obviously not well trained. Meals were quite expensive and not really worth the price paid. One very small bowl of vegetables not enough for four but when we asked another two were bought out eventually.

Full of charm and atmosphere, nothing perfect about the place but that just made it real. The room was spacious and clean the bed enormous. The staff went that extra mile and you forgave them when they struggled a little with a busy evening service. A short drive to many places of interest and as for value for money it could not be beaton. I thourally recomend it.

If you want 5 star + service and luxury like the Ritz or the Dorchester then this not for you, If you want the plastic service of a Travelodge or Premier Inn, then don't book a room. If you want a traditional oldie world comfortable out of the way style hotel then this is the place. Yes there are going to be things that ether don't work or is a bit slow then that's the charm of this hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is good especially the breakfast. We had a good size room and the staff kept it clean and fresh everyday. But remember as the owner said its a very old hotel but it has charm.. We can only agree.
