Went to visit Alnwick Castle and popped into town for lunch. Walked past The Market Tavern and decided to give it a go. We decided to eat at the restaurant located at the back. We were seated but took a while to be served. There was no children's menu but the waitress said that the chef would prepare a child's... More

This was not a good place to stay. Parking is for 2 hours only. There is a nightclub nearby and the noise went on until 2 in the morning with people shouting and screaming in the street. The bathroom was awful and the plumbing makes the most horrendous noise; we did not dare to use it at night. We could... More

Popped in for a bite to eat and it was gorgeous. Service was slow to start with, however our waitress was fantastic which more than made up for it. We ordered two burgers and two drinks. Burgers served pink and are definitely home made. Absolutely beautiful. And the chips were the best home made chips ive ever had in my... More

Was really struggling to find somewhere to eat and after a few, sorry we're full, we came across the market tavern. This place was also full in the restaurant but was doing table service in the pub. Good menu and service very Reasonable price and enjoyable

Ate in the restaurant back in February with friends and we all enjoyed a delicious meal. Portions were very generous and only one of the party could manage a dessert. Returned in July and ate in the bar area. Another excellent meal and great hospitality. The meal choice is extensive with prices to match any budget. I had brisket con... More

My son and I were originally booked in a 'Deluxe Family Room' for £80 at the nightmare, should-be-condemned Budget Hotel round the corner. Despite 'Budget' charging me via booking.com two days before the actual stay without my permission, the place was so filthy I just couldn't stay, despite a refusal to refund from both booking.com and the land'lady'. A lovely... More

Had two meals here and enjoyed both. First time in the bar and the second in the restaurant.Sunday lunch very good. Dont have a starter unless very hungry as big plate full for main course. Always seems to be busy with food which is a good sign.

My husband and I called in for a drink and decided to stay for a meal. The staff were great and so helpful, nothing was a bother. The food was unbelievable, we have recently moved here from Newcastle and can honestly say it's the best meal ever, everyone must try this place.

Living in the town ive frequented the tavern over the years and it has always been a friendly pub. However it has now been transformed to a very cosy family friendly restsurant/inn We went for a family meal for fathers day. The food was lovely. Not too much and not too little. Good choice on menu from a la carte... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Market Tavern was taken over, refurbished and reopened in March 2016. A family friendly run pub restaurant and lodge with a smart, fun atmosphere serving a wide variety of lagers, real ales, spirits and soft drinks. A tremendous wine list accompanies the eclectic food offering. Great food in the bar and Steakhouse. Live bands play some Friday evenings, and it's very popular with the locals and visitors to the area. We are located in the centre of town and a two minute walk to the castle and gardens. The Steakhouse has opened to rave reviews, serving amazing Northumbrian steaks, and local dishes. ... more   less
