We arrived for a 2 night weekend stay and were greeted by Jeanette and Bruce, a couple of the nicest and accommodating people we have ever come across when staying away. Nothing was too much trouble and the little touches such as names on the breakfast table, the opportunity to order breakfast the night before and ready when you came down the next day at your own chosen time , the crisps and sweets in the room, through to the Sherry on the table these were just the best attention to detail for a stay away. West Acres guest house was exceptional, the gardens were very well maintained, the house was spotless and we were made to feel at home and to come and go as we pleased. As far as the accommodation was concerned, the "Oriental room" was probable the best, most well appointed and maintained room we have ever stopped in. I would put it up against some of the 5 star + rooms we have had the privilege to stay in around the top hotels in the region if not better, it was exceptional and a credit to the hosts many years in the hospitality sector.
The overall experience over the 2 nights we were there was second to none, so if you are looking for a truly sensational place to stay, with attentive hosts and good hearty breakfasts to start the day, surrounded in a great setting, look no further than Jeanettes and Bruce's West Acres. Book soon as based on the 5 star + rating i think Bruce is already looking at the rates he is charging :).
Many thanks again Jeanette and Bruce for a great few days in your spotless home and we will definitely recommend a stay here to any of our friends and family looking for a break in Northumberland. .

Stayed here over the Easter weekend and it was a pleasure from the moment of arrival to departure 3 days later!

We arrived an hour before the usual check in time and were met by Bruce with a hearty handshake & welcome. He offered us warm drinks and homemade cake (fruit & ginger - excellent) which were consumed in a spacious & finely decorated sitting room. Bruce confirmed there was no problem with our checking in early & we were shown to our room.

West Acre House has 4 rooms. All double en-suite and decorated uniquely. We were in the Edwardian room which was decorated to a high standard & looks onto the sizeable, well maintained garden. The room had a number of nice extra touches including chocolates, packets of crisps & biscuits which were replenished daily. An Easter egg was a nice touch as was a fine decanter of sherry with 2 glasses. I've not drunk sherry in years but felt obliged to give it a try!

Breakfast is pre ordered the evening before with plenty of choice. We found everything to be lovely with good quality produce served in a timely fashion usually by Jeanette who was very friendly & happy to offer advice on places to visit, eat etc (the property website includes good recommendations on local restaurants & cafes too).

Alnwick & the surrounding area was lovely with plenty of eating options at quite reasonable prices. I also managed to find a couple of excellent real ale pubs (Tanners Arms & the Ale Gate) & was pleasantly surprised by their prices too.

All told a lovely weekend made by the hospitality of Bruce & Jeanette in the nicest B&B I've stayed in to date.

Outstanding B&B! Greeted by owner Bruce with tea and cake on arrival. Our beautifully furnished room was spotless, very comfortable and included everything required ie teas/coffee/ biscuits/ crisps/ chocolates and decanter with sherry! Breakfast choice was exceptional, perfectly cooked and presented. A delightful garden, ample parking and within easy distance of Alnwick town, Castle and the Alnwick Gardens. Jeanette and Bruce the owners made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Such a warm and friendly couple who’s hospitality far exceeds expectations! Highly recommended.

Its always a joy to stay with Bruce and Jeanette. We have been staying since 2006 and it just gets better every time. There is a new walk in shower in the bathroom. Bruce and Jeanette are wonderful hosts and make everyone feel at home they provide great advice on all aspects of your stay. West Arcre house has a great location just 20 minute walk into the centre of Alnwick where there are plenty of good places to eat and lots to do. Its also the perfect location for exploring this beautiful part of Northumbria. The house is set in a beautiful garden, there is plenty of parking, fast wifi and everything you could want during your stay. We love staying in room 3 which has an oriental theme, it has a large comfortable bed, black out curtains, a walk in wardrobe with lots of hangers and luxury bedding and towels. Breakfast is a delicious treat with a great selection of freshly prepared food and is a good opportunity to catch up with the adventures of the other guests.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at West Acre House. From arrival to departure first class. Met at the door by Bruce with a very friendly warm welcome and shown to our room ( Oriental ) which was exceptional. Very clean and well presented. Then offered tea and home made cake which was a lovely touch and tasted superb. Then met Jeanette who again made us very welcome. Lovely comfortable beds and a good nights sleep was had. Breakfast served in a small area with the other guests was first class and set us up for the day. A nice touch was name cards on the tables which allowed you to meet the other guests and know where you were to sit. Throughout the stay we were offered excellent advice re Alnwick and the surrounding area. The gardens were immaculate and provided a nice peaceful area just to have a seat and a rest. Nearly forgot the sherry left in the room was also a smashing touch.
Overall we have stayed in many hotels, guest houses and B/Bs and this was the best I can remember. If you are in the area do yourself a big favour and stay here. You will not be disappointed. ( guaranteed ). A very big thanks to Jeanette and Bruce for their hospitality and very genuine desire to ensure you enjoy your stay.

What a gem of a place! We stayed 4 nights recently and had a lovely welcome from Bruce and Jeannette with tea and cake in the light and airy guest lounge. We had the large Oriental bedroom, very comfortable, spotless and beautifully decorated overlooking the amazing gardens which we were able to walk around and sit in.
There was sherry in a little decanter and varieties of teas and coffees and biscuits in our room which were filled daily.
The freshly prepared breakfasts were delicious and there was a lot of choice. Loved the dining room too.
The house is beautiful and very tastefully decorated but also feels very homely.
It is only 15-20 minutes walk into Alnwick and is in a great location.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, it was all so comfortable and relaxing and Jeannette and Bruce were the perfect hosts.
We will definitely be back.
Thank you both. Loved it all!

A very pleasant B&B in a residential road about 15 minutes’ walk from Alnwick town centre, first impressions were good with delightful gardens surrounding the house and a generally well cared for and refined appearance. There is also off-street parking available. We had arrived before the appointed check-in time, but this was no problem as there was somebody there and the room was ready. We started off with a pot of tea and homemade cake in the conservatory, which was a very nice touch. And very nice cake too!

The room itself was very pleasant and a decent size. The bed was comfy and there was complimentary crisps, biscuits and chocolate. My only slight criticism would be that the shower was rather feeble, but that’s really it, everything else was absolutely wonderful. Even the minor touches made a difference – how often have I squinted at the minuscule writing on bottles in the shower, trying to work out what was shampoo or shower gel. Here they were in clearly labelled dispensers making it so much easier.

Breakfast had to be pre-ordered the night before, but offered a good choice of hot and cold options. The fruit salad was very good indeed and a very generous portion, and the smoked salmon and scrambled egg were really good too.

Overall, I can’t really rate this highly enough. Very friendly and helpful hosts, a lovely house, lovely food, tremendous value and in a lovely town. Highly recommended.

Jeanette and Bruce Hewson at West Acre House are Mr and Mrs Kindness personified! After a difficult day travelling we arrived at their home to such a warm reception, assistance with luggage, and very welcome refreshments. Our room was very comfortable in every way including delightful treats available that were indicative of their generous Northumbrian hospitality. Breakfast selection was exceptional and cooked and presented beautifully. In short, how can you improve on excellence? We arrived at West Acre House rather weary and left after our stay restored a refreshed. Thank you so much Jeanette and Bruce for welcoming us into your home and wishing you ongoing success in continuing to value the guests who stay at West Acre House. Irene and Marion.

An exceptional B&B located on the outskirts of Alnwick, within easy reach of the Town Centre, either on foot or by public transport from the end of the road.
On our arrival we were warmly welcomed by Bruce who immediately invited us to enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea and home made cake in the guest lounge, which we readily accepted.
Bruce and Jeanette ensure their guests are very well looked after, with nothing being too much trouble. Breakfast was superb with an excellent choice of options available ordered the previous evening.
We booked the Oriental Room for 2 nights and were absolutely delighted with our choice.
The property sits in beautiful gardens which guests are invited to enjoy.
We cannot fault this property at all and recommend fellow travellers visiting Alnwick to seriously consider West Acre House if they are looking for an exceptional B&B in this area.
We will have no hesitation in returning when we are next in that area.

If you are looking for a very warm welcome, some luxury and a peaceful and beautiful place to stay for a while, you will find all of that in abundance here.

We were welcomed by Bruce, who showed us to our room and gave us information about what we could enjoy within the house during our stay. He also mentioned good places to eat - and a few places to perhaps avoid.

There was plenty of storage in the large bedroom and a beautiful, large en-suite (again with plentiful storage and small items that you might have forgotten to pack) and little touches that you wouldn’t normally expect to see.

Pre-ordered breakfast (via a tick list we filled out the night before) was ready and waiting and was plentiful and delicious and served by Jeanette who was friendly and informative. She and Bruce are a great team. The breakfast room was laid out in such a way that guests could interact with one another and a really lovely touch was the name labels on each table which allowed us all to get to know one another.

There was safe and easy parking in the house grounds and a beautiful garden to enjoy too. Nothing was too much trouble.

Both Bruce and Jeanette helped us with details of local places to visit and even gave us a tear-off map which they marked with places of particular interest to us in particular.

We have no hesitation whatsoever in highly recommending West Acres House as a wonderful place to stay.

Janice and Alan
