Tried the carvery here and it did smell a bit school dinnerish and to be honest tested a bit bland so won't hurry back also the hotel it's self is a bit dingy and the staff don't make you feel very welcome. The entertainment on a Sunday evening is dreadful aswell... no atmosphere what so ever.

What is going on here? We had the carvery on Sunday and it was extremely poor. The beef tasted over cooked and tough, the roast potatoes tasted like they were cooked a few days ago, went hard then reheated!!! Just not good enough, change your chef or close but do not charge that kind of money for poor quality food!

Stayed here for one night and overall it was a good experience. The staff were very nice and the food was lovely - as others have said the breakfast is also very nice! Our room was ok - the bathroom had been updated and the room had been redecorated but they obviously didn't replace the mattress as I have the... More

Recently stayed at The Golden Lion to visit family. Location very good as on high street and only few minutes walk from the train station. Nice old pub with good size clean rooms and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

When my wife and I, booked in at the Golden Lion for a two night stay, it look to be a promising start for our August Bank holiday weekend, how wrong could we be. After taking the bags to the room. We came down to the lounge to have a drink after a long drive from Essex and before my... More

The Golden Lion Hotel in the High Street of Northallerton is an old coaching inn and still has the archway at its front that is tall enough to allow stage coaches through into what was the stable yard at the back of the hotel and is now a large car park. The hotel was extensively rebuilt in the mid eighteenth... More

Hotel staff in reception and at breakfast couldn't have been better; helpful, knowledgeable and cheerful. Nice big car park at the rear of the hotel. Great breakfast - not a huge amount of choice but really good quality - especially the sausage and bacon. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless if a bit tired. The only significant criticism was that... More

Visited this hotel for an evening during the recent Beer & Cider Festival. Very good event with a big range of real ales, bitter, stout and cider on offer. One of the staff members was particularly knowledgeable and able to recommend particular drinks from the pump. Excellent value at festival prices of £2.20 per pint. The hotel has a traditional...
