We booked with friends and were thrilled to be given an upgrade to Room 6 across the car park, in the new annexe. Very spacious and superb bathroom, and warm. Peter and Stacey are excellent hosts, and cooks. Stacey's scrambled eggs and Pete's pheasant are to die for! We felt really welcome - Pete went out specially to source mussels, and to find a specially selected malt (as we'd made short work of a fine bottle in his well-stocked bar. Lovely and peaceful location - we woke each morning to birdsong. Lovely gardens. Look forward to going back soon.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Absolutely filthy 🤢Awful damp smell on entering the property, the bathroom was really dimly lit and the toilet seat was hanging of(as other guests mentioned 3 weeks ago) All black dirt around the taps and handle in the actual bath, there was a towel in the corner on the floor in the bathroom,to “catch” any leaks from the shower/bath.....REALLY!?!? Not very hygienic in the middle of a pandemic!! Mattress was far too big for the base,it was a queen size mattress on a king size base(not very safe if you happen to sit on it) No mirror to do hair or make up. Not sure who was in the room above but we could hear everything. Originally booked for 3 nights, left after staying just one night there(had no choice as nowhere else had any vacancies at such short notice) The owners were very unprofessional and after approaching them, got absolutely nowhere. Also extremely overpriced for the overall condition of this “hotel” Do not recommend.

Response from Stacie Devos, Owner at Wrangham House Hotel
Responded Oct 11, 2020
Dear Mr/s Brown, Many thanks for your comments, somehow I'm not surprised. When we took you to your room at 2p.m. you commented on how lovely the room was. At 5p.m. you accosted a member of staff in the car park and said you had some issues. Immediatley I came to speak to you. You said that the toilet seat was loose, the bed was two singles pushed together, you couldn't sit on a chair and dry your hair in the mirror you wanted to use as the plug socket would not reach and that there was a towel on the floor in the bathroom. My response was.....The Towel is a bath mat and for your safety so you don't slip. The loose toilet seat was simply that, it was new and needed to be tightened up and I would send the handyman to attend to it. The beds are zip and link and are standard in hotels across the world, you will find them in all Superking rooms, and I offered an extension lead to assist in the seated hair-drying. I also said that if you were unhappy you were under no obligation to stay, but as the room had been used you would be charged for that night. Your response was that you had reserved a table for dinner and you would let us know within the hour if you were going to stay, my answer was the longer you stay the more you will be charged so if you could let us know asap. While you were having dinner the handyman (whom we had called in) tried to access your room but your dog was adamant that he wasn't coming in. We came to let you know and you said he would come back after you had finished dinner. The handyman tried again at 8.45p.m. to access your room and you said he couldn't come in as you were in the bath!!! At 10.30p.m. you rang across to the hotel to say you would be checking out the next morning. When presented with your bill at checkout you were extremely angry that you had been charged for a second night. I explained that if we were able to re-sell your room that night the charge would be refunded. You refused to pay the bill. I again explained that under the circumstances we were within our rights to charge for the full duration of your stay as per our cancellation policy, and that you left it far too late to let us know if you were leaving, but if we could sell the room then we would refund you. The screaming and name calling and threats of bad reviws you responded with was most upsetting for myself and the remainder of the guests in the dinning room. Eventually you settled your account, but it didn't take long for the threats to appear......................within an hour you had sent me an email threatening me with trading standards and bad reviews on"Trip Advisor and any other platform we want to" It is my aim to get in touch with trip advisor in the hope that this review is taken down. It is shameful that you would revert to blackmail to avoid paying your bill. Peter and Stacie Devos

A perfect retreat for a few days. Set in lovely gardens, the hotel had a really hospitable and genuine country house feel. The bedroom we had in the annex was smartly decorated, with sleek modern bathroom. Covid restrictions were sensitively handled. The owners and staff made an exceptional effort to ensure the stay was perfect. I recommend you eat in the restaurant, the food was delicious!

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room if you have large bags or mobility problems as upstairs in the annex...

This is a hidden gem...its a stonker of a hotel and deserves to be much better known in the local area. This hotel is unique - Peter & Stacie (and their children) have made a beautiful property into a lovely, welcoming hotel. Its old...so don't go if you want corporate polish and shine, but for me - what wanted was an overnight stay for my parents and they LOVED IT! The welcome was warm and friendly, the room (Coach House 5) was brilliant - superking bed, huge walk in shower, lovely furnishings...the only issue was the faulty coffe / hot chocolate pod machine in the room which didn't work (much to the upset of my son!) The bar was quaint - all wooden panelled and olde worlde chairs - Peter was a bar man extraordinaire (until he took over for dinner in the kitchen) and kept us all very much entertained. We had dinner at the hotel which - as the hotel itself was was full - the dining room deserved to be "fuller" - we all had starters and mains and not even my dad (famed for his love of puddings) could quite manage dessert. The waitresses were both very young (goodness do I sound old!) and perhaps the dining room could benefit from a very light oversight - for example we ordered a Shiraz and was bought a white wine and we did rather have to wave frantically to be offered a wine list, but the girls were charming and obviously trying very hard After we left my mum and dad sat in the bar with other residents and Peter and it sounded like they had a hoot. We asked for a cab back to PV and instead of calling one the hotel ran us back - AMAZING! The bed (I am told) was super comfy...the bathroom shower great and breakfast apparently epic - one of the best they'd had I loved the quirkiness of this place - they do weddings and I can imagine that hiring this place out for your "do" would be super given the atmosphere and attention to detail in this utterly charming place. Mum and dad hav already said they will be back whenever they come to visit now! Huge thank you's to the whole team your hospitality was both amazing and much appreciated
