Stayed over for one night and had a fair experience. We were checking out the wedding facilities and were lucky to find there was a wedding on. We felt second place after all it was all about the wedding and we got talking to guest who were enjoying themselves which I suppose was the staffs priority. The room was nice and cosy and the bed was so comfy. The windows were painted shut after all it is a historic building but became uncomfortable during the night as the heating remained on. There was no bottled water in the room only tap water, when you wake in the night you shouldn't have to get dressed to go down and purchase a bottle of water from behind the bar.... a little more attention to detail would have been nice. Breakfast was simple and the brown toast was hardly toast so that was left untouched. We have stayed in a lot better for the same money and payed a lot less for the service we got. The spa and facilities are now closed. They sell it well by using the outside and grounds as a powerpoint and I suppose for weddings it's perfect as they focus on the many.

I wanted to have a bit of a get-together for my 60th birthday and this resulted in my organising a party for 80 people which started at 3pm and finished at midnight! I am a bit of a stickler for detail but the staff at Stirk House took "detail" to a whole new level! As the date got nearer I met with and emailed Sarah (she is so suited to this job - excellent!) who asked me all sorts of details which at first I thought "why do you need to know all that?" The answer was simple - they took care of everything for me on the day - I really did not have to remember anything other than spending time with my guests! All dietary requirements were delivered to the correct people during the whole event (we had canapes, main meal and supper); there was the correct cutlery ready for me at the table I was having each course (I moved around the tables during the meal!) and I felt totally "looked after" the whole day"! Stirk House also has a unique strength in the form of Dave! This man not only ensured that on the day everything flowed but anticipated things before I had even thought about them! He even knew from memory who was sitting where and needed special attention! Needless to say that all the food was delicious and served at the correct temperature to every table, with many compliments from my guests! Seriously, I meant the heading of this review - This is THE place for your event!

Lovely small country hotel, absolutely fabulous team working here. Service was second to none, much better than anticiapted considering the price paid. Great ambiance, great food, great rooms. If I had one minor bug bear it would be that the rooms in the lodges block could use a little more sound proofing. It was my first stay here and will definitely not be my last. What a cracking find!
