Our two day break staying at The Bell could not have been better. From initial telephone enquiries speaking to lovely Harriet on Reception and the warm welcome from Anita on arrival, to the fabulous room and wonderful view, all was tip top. We were too late for a room with a balcony as they had already been allocated, however we were given a stunning room at the top of the hotel overlooking the river with dual aspect windows - making for a welcome breeze through the room on two very hot days - and with an immaculately clean and spacious en suite bathroom. Bed was super comfy, masses of wardrobe space and hangers, three massive mirrors, Nespresso coffee machine, I could go on. It was perfect. Alex arrived promptly to quickly sort out the TV losing sound right in the middle of the first England Euros game. Thank you 🙏. Breakfast was taken on the outside terrace in the sunshine and service from Kerry was super friendly and efficient. Dinner served by Charlotte was a lovely evening. Once again speedy and cheerful service, and made to feel really welcome by all staff. Absolutely delicious food - well done chef. Everything served piping hot and no waiting around. Drinks served from the bar, all with a smile. Only one small suggestion - it would be nice to be able to enjoy the more expensive wines by the glass. Sandwich itself is such a pretty town chock full of amazing historic buildings, river walks and lovely little independent shops and cafes. We walked the Stour trail out to Sandwich Bay - a stunning coastline. So much to see and do. There is a charming Nature Reserve full of wildlife which we had pretty much to ourselves. Extremely interesting history to the town spanning centuries. The Bell was the perfect base for our stay and we would definitely recommend it and stay again ourselves. The staff were without exception friendly, helpful and welcoming and that meant so much. Thank you for making us feel right at home.

We were desperate as a family to get out of our home and enjoy a meal together. We headed to Sandwich with no particular plan but to find a nice place to have lunch, ideally near the quay. We'd eaten at the Bell a few years back, and that, as well as the number of people seated outside led us to it. Other places we'd past had been gloomy inside rooms. The Bell has a lovely outside space, which though on the main junction through town, offers the opportunity to people, and car watch. Plus the swallows were feeding their young in the eaves opposite which was delightful. We hadn't booked, but we could see there were spaces. The waitress stood by the entrance gate and advised us the only seating avialable was outside the gate. Two sets of table and chairs had been set within their bicycle/parking area. It was that or nothing, and despite the possible car fumes, I agreed since none of us had respiratory issues. The menu method was interesting. Using a PQR code on the table, the idea was you activated it with your phone and perused the dishes, selecting and paying for them all from your phone. Unfortunately, the technology wasn't quite able to handle my son's purest eating habits. Thankfully, the very nice waitress took pity on us and took our drink and food order. My husband and I had recently had a cooked breakfast, and though we could have managed a meal each, decided it might be better for our waistlines if we shared. While my son ate his quarter pounder and chunky chips, we shared one bacon, cheeseburger and chips together with mayonnaise. It was absolutely delicious and easily the best burger I'd had eaten in quite a while - thanks to Covid. Despite sitting, in what felt like third class, it was lovely being outside in the sunshine, listening to folk talk about 'normal' everyday life.

Arrived at this hotel in Sandwich which is overlooking the River Stour in a perfect position. We were lucky to have a parking space on hotel grounds if not there is a public car park around the corner. We were welcomed and checked in under COVID conditions (masked and given our key which was wiped down). Payment was taken on checkin. We had booked a Superior River View room and we were more than pleasantly surprised at how delightful our room was. Large with a balcony overlooking the river and a large bathroom with good lighting over 2 large mirrors. The room itself had a TV and plenty of storage with many hangers, 2 armchairs and a coffee table and small table and chair which held a Nespresso machine with pods, milk and biscuits as well as a kettle. The hotel itself is classic old style with character. Staff were helpful and always smiling. There is a nice outside seated area where we had a drink in the sunshine. Breakfast was amazing with a huge choice of cooked or continental from a menu with fruit, cereals, yogurts. Nothing was missing. Definitely recommend and we would be more than happy to return.

We have stayed here before and really enjoyed it so decided to stay again !!Sandwich itself is a lovely little town and the hotel is in a great spot !!limited parking but we no that so parked around the corner at 7.80 for 24 hours !! The lobby is still lovely beautifully decorated and with sofas to sit and relax etc!!check in was smooth !! Everything was pretty covid safe for us !!we were in room 39 !!now considering how much the room costs and they have been closed for many months we were very disappointed in the state of the room ,the Walls were in a right state marks all over dirt marks scuffs etc !!The dust on the hanging rail in wardrobe was thick and horrible!!I I opened the wardrobe doors the handle fell off,I hung something on hook on be door in bathroom and it fell off !! I wasn't impressed to be honest!!everything looked tired and dated which is a shame as the hotel could be so lovely !! One of our bath towels looked like it had been used before all creased up and large amounts of fluff all over it?? We didn't eat in the bar we had drinks again all covid safe !! Breakfast was nice altho again for a shepherd neame pub one of the more disappointing ones food wasn't very hot etc !! Such a Shame really we did have a good night's sleep the bed was very comfy and pillows comfy etc but generally the room we stayed in needs improving a lot not sure about the others but ours definitely!! Maybe If it improved we will stay again but there are a lot better ones to stay on !!
