A bit run down, a bit quirky, living on an age old reputation. Rooms are clean and well maintained, although I found the bed very firm. Common areas are the wrong side distressed, and could benefit from some proper cleaning and a paint up. Dining room window sills were covered with dead flies and spiders....not very pleasant at all. Breakfast... More

We only popped in for a coffee as we are property hunting in the immediate vicinity. We were thrilled to think that this would be on our doorstep. Lovely surroundings, very friendly and obliging staff. We will visit regularly for sure. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Our experience of the Walpole Bay does not tally with that of the majority of reviewers on this site and certainly not with FaceBook reviewers. This is baffling, but most reviewers seem to have not stayed the night. Our first impression was positive. The appearance of the hotel exterior indicative of care and effort had clearly been made vis. hanging... More

Visiting Margate for the first time in many years. First impressions of the Walpole real appeal with flowers and seating outside oozing of an era long gone. Today's modern hotels have no character and are just interested in profits before the punter. Exploring further into the Walpole is a magical mystery of discovery, Thank god for eccentric English nutters. But... More

I have visited this hotel several times for cream teas and afternoon tea, every time the staff are friendly polite and efficient cant do enough for you. The food is very tasty and plenty of it. It's so nice to be able to look around all the memorabilia without staying there, such a nice different place to take someone for... More

Themed rooms around the hotels heyday of the 1920s and a very interesting art display. Certainly different -a step back in time - but the beds are comfy and the service is good. Breakfast though self service was plentiful and lots of choice.

Minutes from beautiful beaches and 5 minutes from Margate old town. Friendly attentive staff. Comfy beds and immaculately clean rooms. So much to look at in and... More
