Arrived for an early table on a Saturday. We had a local beer with two wines as we reviewed the menu in the bar. The dining extension had been completed recently on the upper level and seemed comfortable. We selected fish for both courses the trout and hake starters were very tasty, followed by hake fillets again gaining a seal... More

We did the same as our last visit some 18months ago; parked at Croft Castle and walked the red route, some 7miles in total with the Riverside half way. We had a wonderful walk and arrived for lunch, sitting in the snug. We had the Ox cheek, slow cooked for 12hours and boy, was it tasty. Rich flavours, tender meat... More

Came here for our 30th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. It was busy for a Tuesday, and very warm in the restaurant after a hot day, but the staff were very helpful, attentive and smiling! Excellent food, just spot on, from the fish starters to the slow cooked beef and yummy puddings! Will recommend and return hopefully in the... More

Late notice plan to stay and what a treat it turned out to be. Its in a lovely setting by the river. Booking made over the phone and a double room booked with dinner and breakfast. Arrived early evening and was greeted warmly by the female barmaid who showed us to our room and confirmed our dinner reservation. Room was... More

We stayed at this oldy worldy smallish inn for a catch up with friends and decided to spend an extra £10 to have the excellent stable suite. We were very pleased with the spacious suite with comfortable bed sitting area and peace it offered. Excellent menu and wine choices. I had Hake whilst others had Mutton Beef and Salmon. Service... This restaurant really lived up to what I expected. The food was local, well cooked and imaginative. The chef is adventurous, but does not go too far with his ideas allowing the food's natural taste to come through. We all enjoyed the mutton, pork and black pudding, beef, trout, bread pudding and parfait. The soup starter was tasty, but very... More

We recently visited The Riverside for my wife's birthday, we had been for dinner a couple of times before, and will be back again. The food is suburb, it's great to see somewhere so committed to using local produce, but most importantly making it so good to eat - we could happily have ordered every option on the menu! Very... Great stay at the riverside. Dinner was gorgeous, also presented my husband with a birthday cake which was unexpected. Ambience, staff and location super. Bedroom a little dated as was bathroom, a bit tired and could do with a revamp however we still had a very comfortable nights stay. Mini bar fab and free! Nice touch with filter coffee, range... Stayed in the "stable" room with partner and our daughter (18 months) and had carefully planned an evening meal in the restaurant after finding that the baby monitor worked over that distance!. Unfortunately our daughter had other ideas and certainly didn't want to go to sleep :-). The staff were amazing, and brought food to our room instead. The food... More

I was expecting great things as described by our hosts. Unfortunately first hurdle was finding parking, not quite a nightmare but close. As we were shown to our seats the place did not seem full at all, but it seems we were all herded into one room to make their serving easier. I'm not small & our seating was quite... More

Thank you for taking the trouble to post a review and I am sorry that your experience with us back in May was not what you were anticipating.
