We stay at the peat spade in October. It is a charming pub and hotel. Just a few things to think about. We found the rooms very cold in the night The radiator was on but no heat until the morning. Also one night the pub was freezing another couple asked if they could move to the restaurant as they were cold in the bar. Nobody seemed to get the hint so we left and went into Stockbridge. On our return which was about 10.15 we walked into the bar and asked if it was still open. The barman was quite curt and said for 1 drink only. My partner got out his wallet and the barman said cards only. Which was find it was just his unwelcoming manner We did like the the pub and the rooms and breakfast was lovely. We just felt there was a few snags.

I've started using the Peat as a halfway meeting point between Bournemouth and friends/family in Hampshire and we always have a beautiful meal. Last night I had the best fish and chips I've ever had! The tartar sauce and mushy peas were beautiful too. The staff are always so attentive and friendly, we've never had a bad meal. The roast is always a good choice if you're there on Sundays, though others seem to have an issue with it!

Although I've never stayed here overnight, I'd really like to try it as the rooms look lovely.

Basically a country pub with rooms our first impression was not good when we had a receptionist/barmaid who was unable to operate the printer to give us a receipt.
That said we then went to our room, which was on the upper floor of a small converted outbuilding and almost all was forgiven.
The room was spacious, well equipped and generally clean although a number of cobwebs hung from a fairly high ceiling.
A good selection of tea, coffee etc was nicely complemented by the fact that there was fresh milk in the refrigerator rather than the tasteless plastic sachets, or at least there should have been except the room service had forgotten it so wee had no milk at all until I walked back across the car park to get some. A large bathroom with a good range of quality toiletries and a great shower made for a very welcoming room.

We ate at the pub restaurant (see seperate review) and had a most excellent and enjoyable evening.

The big letdown was the breakfast experience.
A small dining room, I estimate seven in total, so not hard work for the one waitress but she was more interested in what was happening on her mobile than on serving the diners.
A poor selection of cereals and juices for an establishment of this nature was made worse by the fact that there was only strawberry jam or marmite to complement my toast. I am keen on neither and the waitress disspeared off to find alternatives. I thnk that she must still be looking as she never returned.
We deduced that a buzzer sounded when hot meals were ready for collection from the kitchen and duly anticipated ours arriving when it sounded. Nothing happened and approximately five minutes later it sounded a second time for a further order from the next table. At this point the waitress tore herself away from her mobile and went to collect the meals. Ours was luke warm at best and coupled with the fact that it was served on stone cold plates it was a dissapointing end to our stay.

Not an awful experience but with just a little more attention to detail and staff training to the standard of the restaurant waitress from Spain who served us the previous evening I would now be saying what a great place it was to stay.
Thank Samuel P

I took 4 people to the Inn which is a Gastro-Pub this week and we had excellent food far better than the average Pub, The venison pie was by far the best I have ever had and two of the ladies had a Bream dish which they also rated very highly. The service was good but we would recommend that people book a table away from the bar as it was very noisy, part of which was caused the staff talking too loudly,
People with a handicap particularly those confined to a wheel chair should not consider going as there are no special facilities for those with a handicap particularly wheel chair users.

This is one of those places having a belief that it is better than it really is. A group of us went for Sunday Lunch. Virtually no choice for Vegetarians. Come on this is the 21st Century. Avoid the Fish and Chips. Fish so overcooked it was just mush and chips which looked like they had been incinerated. Not great, not one to return to. Not cheap either., Not really good value.

I am sorry you were disappointed with the menu choice for vegetarians, we do have a couple of options on our menu and the chef always offers a couple for specials as well. I am surprised about your comments about our beer battered Hake we normally have such positive comments and its one of our most popular dishes. I can only apologise that you found this not to our usual standard. - Best wishes Shelley
