Stayed here recently as part of a wedding group, the place its self is beautiful - its been decorated in a quirky style which is fantastic unfortunately it has some really poor finishing touches! Such as nails sticking out of wood and the light around the bar are battery operated with the battery packs stuck on the wall! The hotel... More

Called in here after a walk as 5 Bells was packed. Door was open but management explained they were still fitting out before their imminent re-opening. The bar area looked very smart, and the staff were very friendly. Worth keeping a look out and trying.

The accomodation has been covered by all the other reviewers, and suffice to say, I agree with all that has been said and don't think any is exaggerated. However, I was walking the South Downs way and sprained my ankle badly at the top of Butser hill. I didn't realise quite how bad the sprain was until I took my... More

We had read the reviews before booking here but as we could find nowhere else and it is an obvious stop when walking the South Downs Way we decided to give it a go knowing it was going to be grotty. Before we left home to start our walk I phoned the pub and spoke to a man because I... More

We had a wonderful day planned walking the South Downs and had wanted to start the day with Coffee. We walked up to the Maple Inn but were informed that they opened at noon. After coffee at The Five Bells we set off on our 3 hour trek returning to Buriton at 13:57, too late for lunch at the Five... More

We only stayed one night, 30th July, as we had business in the area. The room was clean but dated, the bathroom still has a green bath & no shower. The tv didn't work. The whole place needs an upgrade but as it is up for sale will hopefully get done if it ever sells. Continental breakfast was included in... More

The pub is on the market looking for a buyer. The current owners are maintaining a standard the new owners will have to invest to bring the rooms up to modern standards. Our room (number 5 I think) only had a bath; no shower. Being a twin it was cramped, reasonably clean. Tea, coffee available in room, TV and comfy... More

Looks lovely from the outside, friendly bar staff met us and took us to our room when we arrived, explained everything etc.. Room was small clean but very worn and old. Both windows were open one of them the catch had broken off). En-suite had no shower and again was very tired and worn. (possibly avocado green for those 70's... More

We stayed one night on while walking the South Downs Way. The room needed a lot of work to bring it up to a modern state, small baldy designed, but not unclean. The evening staff were helpful and friendly, we are vegans and the chief had specially prepared something for us. As a contrast the breakfast staff seemed to want... More

I stayed here for 1 night and booked a double room. I was told the bathroom wasn't an en suite but was only available for me to use. This was clearly not the case! The bathroom was filthy with a used towel on the floor. I returned at night to find a very drunk girl in the bathroom, I asked... More
