Please see attachment Major problems within this hotel and have written a complaint 2 months ago As we have still not even had an acknowledgment from the hotel, I am posting my Letter on here. Total lack of staff, poor housekeeping, dirty rooms, overcrowding in pool areas - did Not feel safe. Poor management. Expected to pay more for extras with meals and anything cooked at breakfast I.e £4.25 for a boiled egg!
Currently staying in a superior room at forest mere Champneys. I’m really surprised how the standards have dropped. It was a treat to go away for our anniversary but I really wouldn’t bother wasting your money. The treatment staff so far are the only redeeming factor. The rooms walls are so thin we can hear both couples either side talking, light switches going on and every bathroom noise. It’s like being in a cheap hotel. We wouldn’t recommend.
My partner booked overnight stay in Champneys for almost £600 and we left yesterday not very satisfied. It wasn't a spa feel at all without any relaxing music and smells. Needed to wait to use some of the free spa facilities. Room and bathroom was boring, old and tired. Champneys products not available in the bathroom (unbelievable to see some cheap product, not Champneys). I feel more relaxed in my flat with my Neom candles/diffusers, Rituals products in my bathroom and fairly lights. Sadly not a good value for money and not going to come back or recommend. .
Average, in short, very average! I am a very well-seasoned traveller, who has travelled the world via SPA. I have visited and stayed at Champneys Tring on quite a number of occasions. I had seen some negative reviews of Forest Mere, about it being tatty and dated, but I still wanted to try it, and form my own opinion. I do get the irony of that now I am leaving a none glowing review. We had booked 5 days in a lux room, and quite a few treatments, cost was around £5k First impression was not good, as we pulled into the VIP parking area ( we had booked a Lux Room and stay with VIP Parking) there was a huge huge heap of rubbish spilling out into the carpark, it must have been 6ft high and 14ft wide, just black bags and boxes everywhere – my wife’s exact words, - “this can’t be it, it’s a dump, we must be at the wrong place” The disappointments kept coming, there were very few staff on reception. We had booked via phone, where we were told the lux room included, early check in, welcome gifts in the room, fruit platers each day, VIP changing rooms, and quite a lot more goodies. None of that happened, we were charged another £60 for early check in, which got us a small lunch, but still no access to the room, ( that’s a pricey lunch) no gifts, we never saw any fruit palters in 5 days, no gifts, ( and no robes to take away!!!!) and there are no VIP changing rooms onsite (I think they mixed that up with Tring, who do offer this) Our room was only cleaned once properly in 5 days, from day one there was no toilet paper, and every single day I had to ask for towels and toile paper, you really do feel like a pleb when you spend £5k and end up walking round trying to find toilet paper. The room was ok, but really only just on the verge of ok, considering it was a “lux” room. Small with no bath. On a positive, the food was nice, and the restaurant staff great, big up to Ellie and Chris, who gave great service and genuinely made the stay bearable. If it was not for the restaurant team I think we would have left early. That said, we were shown 2 restaurants on check in, the second nicer plush restaurant never opened in the 5 days we were there, and so we eat in more of a cafeteria setting each day – really where is the luxury! The facilities and Spa were not great at all, and of course this is meant to be the main event. If you like swimming, the pool is a great size, but its overbearing when looking at the other facilities available, its all pool and no luxury. The mixed steam room is tiny fitting just 2 people, the sauna fits just 4, there are additional facilities in the changing rooms, but as a couple, you really want to share the experience. I don’t appreciate or expect to have to wait over an hour to get a spot in the jacuzzi when you have paid to use the facilities. 40 guests on site and not enough facilities to match. Its the same with the poolside loungers, may be there were 6 or 7, which meant many guest had to sit on deck chairs. That’s not right. Many of the lockers don’t work, and it does feel and look tatty. I am sorry, its just not good enough. In short it feels all very local council level pool and gym if honest. The building its self is tatty too, with windows and doors literally rotting off their hinges. The picture is of the fire exit next to our room, many of the windows looked like this. So for me, overpriced, not enough luxury, way too many undelivered promises, and a general disappointment – maybe I should have taken the reviews onboard…….…
Horrendous 'Customer Service' provided by Champneys Forest Mere, who not only threw away the breast prosthesis I have been using since my cancer treatment, but failed to genuinely apologise for having done so. They also failed utterly in dealing with my request when I called first thing the next morning, very upset. There was no sense of compassion nor urgency from the hotel staff, I received no response to my initial call, nor did anyone act on my request for help. Instead, I was forced to keep calling to repeat my very distressing predicament to various unhelpful staff members, which dragged on for days before I was sent, by the General Manager via email, a cut & paste of the property policy dismissively telling me they were not responsible for guests' personal belongings. Would they throw a wedding ring in the bin rather than keep it until at least the next morning to see if someone claimed it? In an era of increased awareness of those living with disabilities and medical conditions I find this level of service frankly appalling and incredibly insensitive.…
