Just returned from a one-night spa break at Forest Mere and cannot fault the place. All staff without exception were polite, courteous and helpful and the facilities were excellent. The food and service in the restaurant were to a high standard and again we could not fault. I was not particularly a fan of the breakfast preferring bacon, pork sausage and hash browns to the chicken and turkey varieties on offer, but then again as my wife reminded me “you are supposed to be on a health break”! Our room (Luxe) was spotlessly clean and very comfortable for our stay. The safe worked as did the iron and ironing board , and our gowns were not tagged but instead finished with some nice gold piping. The whole experience was refreshing and different to that which I was otherwise expecting. After initially booking I became a little concerned following some of the negative reviews on this site which appeared to be becoming more frequent in recent weeks. I was on the verge of cancelling but following contact with the reception staff I received assurances that everything was in order. The only facility not available was the outdoor pool which is understandable at this time of year. I would agree that there are some parts which most probably need some maintenance and refreshing in time as with all buildings but generally these did not affect us. I could not understand why Champneys themselves do not offer comment on reviews and by remaining mute it only endorses the negatives. I suppose the positive reviews such as this do help to balance the negative ones. You can find fault anywhere if you look hard enough. On this occasion I could not find any and instead we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be returning.…
Just returned from the amazing Forest Mere. We have been celebrating our Anniversary and it was very special couple of days. We were upgraded to Luxe Room with most beautiful view to the Lake. The staff everywhere were so friendly, but especially in the Restaurant, who remembered us from previous day and made us feel so welcome and at home. Nothing was too much trouble. The Spa facilities and pool area were so relaxing. I had Elemis Deep Tissue Massage, which was out of this world- therapist was so knowledgeable and made me feel so comfortable. All in all a really wonderful couple of days, a lovely way to celebrate and we want to thank all the staff for making it so special for us.
Such a lovely location with lovely views. Felt relaxed driving down the lane to the hotel, check in was quick. They give you robes so you can change as soon as you're in your room and get straight into relaxation mode. The spa was great, loved the poolside waterbeds and the separate rooms to relax in. I had several treatments and they were all amazing. I saw some mixed reviews so I was a bit worried beforehand but no need. The staff were all lovely and each treatment was done on time and for the full time I'd booked. They took care to make sure the products I used were vegan and didn't contain allergens for me. The massage with lava shells was so good. The mud treatment was nice but I'd probably find it a bit boring on my own, doing that with friends or a partner makes it a fun group treatment. The clay itself was so good, my skin felt amazing afterwards. After each treatment you're given a note, with all the products used (available in the shops on site) and advice but there was no pressure selling at all. Felt so amazing after each treatment, it was exactly was I came for! I couldn't find much detail on food online, particularly plant based options before my visit so I had no idea what to expect but they had plenty of options and I was impressed with how much food was offered. Both lunch and dinner is a three course menu. We booked our time for all three meals and we were seated/served promptly every time. We were really happy with our food and the service. Staff were all really friendly, attentive and professional. I enjoyed that they would remember something from our last interaction and they'd mention it again unexpectedly. One of those customer service things I notice and appreciate. Very happy with service throughout our stay. My room was fine. Again, saw mixed reviews about them and what I found was a room that was spacious, clean, a large bed and a decent bathroom with a good shower. The style was a bit dated but all the facilities worked fine. Downside, I could hear the people in the next room quite easily. Luckily they were not that loud or had the TV on too late so it didn't bother me for my visit at all but I'm mentioning it because you can hear some noise so taking ear plugs might be a good idea if you're a light sleeper in case the people next to you are louder/night owls than the people I had next to me. Overall it is a great place to go for a relaxing spa break, I'd recommend it and will return again in future …
A wonderful stay at Forest Mere. The therapists were all amazing: thanks to Jennifer, Antonette, Amy and Susie. The food, as always, was lovely. I particularly wanted to commend the waitstaff and managers of the restaurant for their passionate commitment to service.
Excellent stat at Forest Mere again. All the staff go out of their way to help. Anco and Tom on reception deserve a special mention. The food that I had was good and varied. I do wish someone would take note and bring back the buffet lunch. Spa facilities all very good.
First rate personal training from Evelyn! I hate exercise and I hate gyms YET here I am training regularly with Evelyn’s one to one PT sessions. I feel fantastic for it too! She provides just the right motivation, not at all’ judgy’, and always friendly! She really cares. I know I’ll be renewing my membership here as it’s the first time in my life that I’ve taken out a gym membership and am still using it nearly a year on. The staff at the fitness desk are all friendly and keen to help. It goes without saying that I obviously LOVE a post workout spa!
Only come here if you want to be ignored , stay in a room that is very tired with beds as hard as rock and charged extra for everything . The rooms are very tired and the bathrooms need totally updating , no working safe and no fridge in the room towels pool quality and very small and grubby robes with a security tag designed to keep in maybe . Champneys advertise great facility’s but very few are working and there are some you have to pay extra to use even though in the mineral pool only half of the stations work and some parts are rusty . The pool area is very crowded and the lounger police come round and remove your things if you get up and go into the pool , very few loungers only deck chairs which in the three days I visited never saw anyone use . The sauna and steam room are falling apart and not at all inviting . The restaurant was a joke , staffing is inadequate and it feels like you are totally ignored . The food portions are very small and the choice is very limited unless of course you pay extra supplements menus are mostly for vegans . There is no atmosphere at all , no music totally cold place to sit and eat . The breakfast was adequate but if you wanted anything hot there was a supplement even for a boiled egg !! We have been to many of the Champneys resorts , this is by far the worst and if this is the standard that the organisation has slipped into they need to have a rethink , I will be contacting Steven Purdue in due course but we will not be returning and have already torn up my discounted return voucher which on previous occasions have always used . I have never ever written a poor review before but sadly this trip left me very angry that an organisation that has built its reputation on health and well-being leaves it’s guests totally exasperated by the time they leave with a much smaller bank balance .…
What has happened to champneys? So, so food, whirlpool not working and absolutely disgusting shower cubicles. Tiles off of the walls and clumps of hair on the shower floor. Disgusting, oh, and they don't reply to your emails. Used to enjoy coming here for spa days, but very disappointed
Disappointing stay - happily booked via Vitality and didnt pay much. I wonder if this would be the problem - they dont have enough guests so have brought the service down to match the 70-75% discount you do get via Vitality. Dinner was mediocre, would never go back if it was a normal restaurant. There is no atmosphere at all and the food is quite tasteless. I know its a healthSPA but seems like they have gone for cutting all calories etc but not thought about the flavour... SPA is underwhelming - very limited nice seating areas and they expect guests to sit on desk chairs around the pool... HAd a headmassage that I paid £108 for...it was nice but they tried to upsell me a foot and/or head mask for additional £10/15.... Felt cheap to try to be upsold while laying on the bed..... Breakfast was ok. The best of the whole stay was actually the boiled egg! Boiled to perfection! When checking out they add an automatic service fee for the staff.... hmmm.. not sure why.. Will not return and wish i spend the money elsewhere.…
We enjoyed our 2 night stay - good accommodation / healthy food and service by the staff, Dan in the restaurant / excellent treatments - Lesley A in Elemis. Idea - maybe keep the Orangery area / bar open in the evening
