We had friends from France visiting and took them to the Alton House Hotel For Sunday lunch. We all enjoyed it. The wine was expensive for a cheap house wine. However the food was hot and good. Will go again.

We were not very pleased when we checked into our room the reasons being that we thought the room was not of very high standard considering that we paid a total of £206.00 including breakfast. We thought the room number 28 was a bit small and so was the wardrobe not enough room for two people clothes could not be...

Great place to stay when visiting the watercress railway line. Not bad rooms beds a little soft. When we arrived we found the tea and coffee stuffed in in a draw. Both cups were dirty along with the spoons. The kettle still had water in it when stored on it side so when I lifted it out water went every...

My family and I stayed at the hotel when we travelled to the area to see family. It's one of the most reasonable hotels in the area and is full of character and recently been refurbished. Staff are helpful and the bed was so comfy. Would recommend.

We stayed at the Alton House Hotel on Saturday following a lunch for a family member. Staff were very good and helpful, our room was ready before lunch and they were happy for us to have access to it to change. The hotel coped very well with a lunch for 40 and the room was lovely with direct access to...

Despite objections from a family member ( who I might add ,didn't know where the hotel was or never been there)..I pushed for my mother's wake to be held there. I must admit I did mess about with the menu somewhat( they were very obliging)..and was not disappointed..Sandwiches were very fresh well presented, scones cream and jam (almost) as good...

Hotel has a quite nice exterior, Georgian style I think. Interior, especially restaurant, looks like they've got Timothy Leary (LSD popularizer) working as upholsterer (not sure who in their right mind wants purple chairs with green buttons), but whatever. Had a single room which was small, and an annoying door which goes cheep-cheep- cheep like a budgie when the door...

Just joined a new choir that rehearses on a Wednesday at this fairly newly-decorated hotel - great choir and great venue for rehearsing. But the icing on the cake is that the Alton House Hotel does the most splendid buffet lunch for £6.95. Good news for pandering to my greed - extremely bad news for my expanding waistline 'cos I...
