As ever, I used my trusty Michelin Guide for good food in Pubs. I was certainly NOT disappointed but whilst every dish was delicious, if I was highly critical, I considered each dish one pound overpriced for a pub atmosphere. I had the wild mushrooms with crinkly hen's egg to start. Delicious but a few more mushrooms would have fulfilled... More

Lovely setting at The Anchor for a pint or two. Great little garden out the back with plenty of seating. Inside has a relaxed atmosphere with wonderful decor, watch out for the low ceilings! Staff were friendly and very clued up on all the beers. Wonderful place to stop for a drink on our mid afternoon walks... Give the cider... More

This was the letter we wrote it took until now for a reply! Dear Sir/Madam, Having stayed and dined at your inn several times we had decided to make you top of our list of venues for our wedding. We made a reservation on May the 8th to stay with you in order to meet and discuss what you could... More

Very disappointing. Although the Anchor is a bit out of our way, we've seen it as an excellent option over the years. We went there today after a gap of about a year. Terrible disappointment. Undercooked chicken, pork belly almost all fat but prices still reflecting past excellence. Appears now to be family orientated but they'd be better to save... More

I suppose I was a bit on the late side, getting there nearer 2 than one, but the welcome was immediate and unaffected. I went round the other end of the bar to see what beers were on offer, and two were local, the third from a well-respected brewery in the Midlands. The lunchtime menu was perhaps shorter than some... My husband booked an overnight stay here for my birthday. We had read a few reviews before arriving and had some minor concerns. We needn't have worried. The food in the restaurant was delicious and well presented. Our suite was lovely with a great rural outlook. The staff were attentive and welcoming. We would happily come back for food or... More

Visited this pub after a Saturday's shopping in Alton. I had cycled past this pub many times and always admired it English country charm. We called in for a quick pint and sandwich as a tester before we took some friends over to test the menu. Glad we did. We tried their BLT sandwich. This consisted of two rashers of... More

There were two other groups dining and we were placed on a tiny table beside the WC...Why?? The menu sounded mouth wateringly good, but we were all disappointed. My small piece of cod was cooked well, but what was going on around it? The 'flavours' were most odd. I thought choosing cheesecake for pudding was a safe bet, but a... More

We chose the Anchor for lunch before a visit to see family. My wife and daughter chose the fish and chips and I had the BLT. The fish and chips were very good, however they came served on a wooden chopping board! Call me old fashioned but I would have preferred a plate. The BLT which did come on a... More
