Upon visiting the lovely pub which is The Anchor, we left dissatisfied. The menu is very bland made flashy. £25.50 for a 6oz steak is unfortunately not an option! So we opted for the fish and chips, keep it simple, £14 per head. It was served in reasonably prompt time....As the waitress approached with the tedious chunks of wood acting... More

Quirky room - the 'Richard Hillary' - with lots of character. Wonderful bathroom with very high quality toiletries. This is a classy place with interesting décor. The food was delicious (restaurant quality, restaurant prices) and all the staff were really friendly.

We dined at the Anchor with 2 other couples to celebrate our Anniversary. We had our wedding here last year. Food was great but unfortunately the evening was spoiled by shambolic service. We had to wait 20 minutes for the wine to come, the red was served in the wrong glasses and we had to ask for the water 3... More

Bit expensive but very nice atmosphere. Interesting bathroom art too haha. Nice and friendly staff and good food! Always very busy which says a lot about its quality and reputation! In a beautiful village too Can be a bit hard to find though!

This place is rustic in appearance. As you walk into the bar the ceilings are low but walk through to the restaurant and the whole place opens up The food is really incredible and worthy of being in a five star restaurant The scotch eggs and the ham hock terrine are to die for and I could have made room... Visited for lunch recently with my wife, having been here for dinner many times. Love the contrast between the snug and very old beamed bar area to the more open and spacious restaurant to the garden area with open views of the country. Food is excellent quality with a varied menu offering 6-7 starters and main courses followed by pudding.... More

The meal was lovely and could not fault it really, however felt a bit let down by the atmosphere. There were some people eating outside and some inside. Outside needed a more homely feel e.g. cushions, flowers on table, maybe some music and definitely more light. Towards the end of the evening we all huddled around one candle and then... More

Stayed overnight while on business locally. Very hot evening, so ate outside with business colleagues. Food very good but service very patchy and our drinks took ages to arrive, as did the opportunity to order and subsequent drinks ordered were forgotten for a while. The food was very good, however, and worth waiting for. I suspect this is a busy... More

Fabulous quaint quirky Inn. Lots of interesting pictures & lovely traditional decor. We stayed for 2 nights playing golf in the area and had a fabulous stay at the Anchor. We ate in for 2 evenings and had a marvellous gourmet dinner both nights. Staff were considerate & attentive. Lovely rooms. Lovely Breakfasts. Can highly recommend staying here. If your... More

Had heard a lot about this restaurant and possible weekend away spot. Arrived for a meal with drinks first. Initially bar person advised that not all bottled beers were there and in fact selection very limiting. Surprisingly urban style finishes to garden area with no atmosphere. Restaurant was more like a school dining room. True a style but in no... More
