We had reserved 4 rooms (and paid deposit) , spending a huge amount of money for a special occasion and by accident (making a Covid enquiry) we got told that the venue won’t be open on the date we had booked because their refurbishment had run over... It’s now left us very little time to find alternative accommodation.. no compensation offered. Very disappointing.
We booked with Secret Escapes as a birthday treat for me on 1st April, in the present situation we felt that it was essential to bring the date forward so we went on 18th March instead We also had the Dukes Robe Chamber which had a four poster bed entrance to the bathroom was a secret door with a cross on in. The tea/coffee facilities and place to put luggage looks like a little dungeon next to the bed. All staff are very pleasant, a pity it rained all the time but a lovely experience and a special treat We had a two course meal but think £10 for a glass of wine is a little steep, also bottles can be a little ,expensive. As the Corona Virus is spreading there wasnt that many people there
Where do i start!i have never stayed anywhere before that every single member of staff we encountered were so welcoming and happy to please. We were staying for 2 nights with my sister and her husband in 2 deluxe rooms, plantagenet and woodstock.personally i much preferred the woodstock room as it had a working gas fire in its huge fireplace and was a much lighter room with a four poster bed and had such a lovely feel to it.the other room was lovely, very atmospheric and the receptionist very kindly juggled things around so we could swap rooms.we also had a peek in the howard room when the door was open and that too is a room i would like to stay in next time as i understand that too has a working gas fire in.the grounds were nice to walk around, would be lovely to sit out therdin the summer months.the lounge menu had a good choice, even for my sister who doesn't eat meat.Matilda the castle cat just sealed the deal for us so we will definitely be returning, thank you all.…
We stayed in one of the deluxe suites in the tower. The room was huge, very warm but I guess it’s good, we had to turn the radiators off! Tilly the cat gave us a guided tour of the castle and grounds, she’s so lovely and a highlight of our visit. The food was delicious, wide range of wines! Staff were wonderful and polite. I can’t wait to come back!!! My partner and I are considering getting married here in the next few years that’s how much we loved it!!
We booked a non-refundable room and had to cancel due to corona virus. it was no problem. This shows a high quality hotel with integrity. So please support them as they are one of the 'good ones'. I thought it was important for readers to know ... I did make multiple contacts with the hotel prior and the staff were responsive and positive.
