We stayed here a few weeks ago and had the most wonderful time. The castle is amazing and the staff couldn’t do enough for us, with a particular shout out for Georgia on reception (apologies if I spelt your name wrong!). We couldn’t book for a second night because of private hire so booked a hotel in Bristol which Georgia had previously worked in. She went out of her way to call ahead that we were on our way and to look after us. All the staff were great though, professional, efficient and friendly. Our room, the Queen Elizabeth I was beautiful, the food superb, the grounds, immaculate. I couldn’t fault it and would highly recommend for something special. I even expected a bit of dust or cobweb in such a place but nothing. Spotless! We will hopefully return again one day.
Had an excellent stay in one of the deluxe suites accommodating family of four. To be able to stay in a castle that is connected to history like this was a highlight of our trip to the UK. The staircase getting to the room was a little intense, but fortunately luggage is taken up and down for you. All the staff were eager to assist, and there was plenty of help for only having 26 rooms. Rooms are well appointed, and several complimentary items such as water, milk, and a local liqueur that I have forgotten the name of. Bathroom is marvelous and very modern with heated tiles Breakfast was included in our package, and was very very good.
We stayed in the Tower Suite for three nights. It was magnificent. Opulently appointed and over the top in the nicest way possible. The massive four-poster bed is something to behold. The service in the library for drinks, at dinner and at breakfast was impeccable. The grounds are wonderful. We had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with the gardening staff who clearly take huge pride in their work, and grow some of the produce used in the kitchens. We could wander in the gardens all day an never become tired of it. One of the most unique features of The Tower Suite is the original staircase with 77 stone steps to reach the top. It was well worth it! (And yes, they will carry your bags for you). Do make the effort to book an archery or falconry lesson. Wander the old churchyard next door (you can see it from your suite window). Take the history tour - early on if possible, you'll appreciate the Castle all the more if you do. By all means pick up a book from the library and curl up with a drink. Order the wine pairings with your dinner. They put a huge amount of effort into every single aspect of your stay, enjoy every bit you can. If you want a place to indulge in beauty, history, food and beverages in an incredibly beautiful setting this is the place. …
We stayed here for our 25 wedding anniversary and everything about the Castle made it extra special for us ! Literally from the moment we drive through the castle entrance it was fantastic. The castle itself, a Grade 1 listed property has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated to a high standard. It’s Grade 1 so dont expect everything to be immaculate, so the history ‘shines’ through at times. It’s definitely a place to visit if you want peace and quiet and time to get away, so don’t expect super tech or mod cons or a gym. Just beautiful building, incredible rooms, beautiful gardens and lots of history to the location. Oh and the team are professional, friendly and lovely and very helpful ! We had dinner, bed and breakfast and weren’t disappointed with any of it .... Edward Stafford suite which we stayed in has a bedroom and completely separate lounge area and was fantastic. Breakfast was great and dinner was exceptional ! If you’re foodies like we are would definitely highly recommend dinner at the Castle as it’s proper fine dining, great service and superb food ..... huge praise to the Chef and Pedro and the service team Overall it’s a big 5 Stars from us .... loved it big time 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟…
Beautiful castle with modern amenities. Grounds were beautiful. It felt very private without being commercialized. I was happy there were no large crowds. Castle was very clean and wonderful. Bed was super comfortable and staff were very friendly.
Fantastic, high quality stay, in a completely different bracket and experience to the average, its costs more, but you certainly get what you pay for here. Our stay was completely faultless, everything was professional, tasteful, superb room, completely different dining experience to the usual steak and chips type places! Also fantastic history with the castle. Short walk to the very pretty Thornbury village. Only downside for some, because of the historic building there is not a lift to the bedrooms. All round a fantastic experience
Restaurant service varied from very good to poor. Our champagne in the package was nowhere to be seen. Our birthday celebration was intentionally ignored by the staff even though it was noted. Services lacked enthusiasm and warmth.
My wife and I had another brilliant stay celebrating our wedding anniversary. We really couldn’t fault a thing. The room was incredible, the food was amazing, and the staff and service were all fantastic.
Return visit after 30 years. Wonderful experience. The staff was exceptional. Beautiful setting.Every facet was first class. Loved the garden and adjacent bar service. The room was elegant and well appointed.Dinner service was first class with food to match.
I used to visit this hotel many years ago and it was always special as the location is so stunning. The new owners are bringing it back to its former glory and every aspect of my recent stay was superb. Staff on Reception are knowledgeable, helpful and very welcoming. The staff in the restaurants are excellent and cannot do enough for the guests. The gardening team are creating wonders in the kitchen garden and the results can be enjoyed in the flavoursome dishes created in the kitchen. It was a real treat to stay and I look forward to returning in the near future.
