The hotel is in a beautiful location and the hotel itself is really lovely and picturesque. The staff were extremely welcoming. It by far exceeded my expectations in every way. They have recently gone through a change in management and explained that they had had some difficulties with the previous manager having taken down their website and deleting all future bookings and such like. To be honest, I wouldnt have known, it was well organised, just a tad quiet at the moment. The new chef is fantastic, as were all of the staff. I would definitely recommend to all and would happily stay again.
I booked my mother and I in for a week as a relaxing weekend after the funeral for my father, arrived 28th May for one week.on arrival we were told due to COVID and the bank holiday they were uncertain of the number of guests that would turn up so the restaurant menu was reduced which we accepted. The room key couldn’t be found so they gave us the master key and after 30 minutes they found the actual key and swapped that out.we ate in the restaurant and had a delicious sea bass, the next day things took a turn,we went out for a short trip but on returning we were blocked from entering the hotel car park by the manager and owner,it took the police an hour to arrive before either would move the car.the manager had been let go and replacement managers were coming in.we didn’t pay too much attention to it but thought it a little odd. That evening we went to eat,I asked for a steak only to be told they had none,as there were only 5 choices on the main menu it was a bit disappointing. The next day we had our breakfast which was also very limited, boxed cereal, kid style, bacon and egg were available to order.as we had to prepay for breakfast the limited choice had not been forthcoming when I was asked to fully pay before arrival. The following morning we learnt the outgoing manager had cancelled the weeks bookings, the accounts with suppliers and the computer password and phone line. This had a knock on effect for us in that we quickly became one of only 2 parties in the hotel, the breakfast bar shrunk even more,at one point there was no orange juice so the waitress had to go down to the local shop for some,my mother asked for french toast,a relatively simple request,if we asked the female waitress it was no problem but the male waiter had a can’t be bothered attitude and he would just reply it’s not on the menu even though it was on their outdoor menu. The. Breakfast bar was so sparse and was made worse by just tea cups put out no saucers which shows they really didn’t care. On the Thursday we went to breakfast to be told the chef was sick, they had toast and cereal which I couldn’t eat on my diet,we had to go and pay the cafe for breakfast, when I complained the the new manager I was told a new chef was coming in today and they couldn’t refund me any money as they had no access to accounts and they hadn’t taken my money, they did give me 4 different emails to complain to ranging from the previous manager to the admin for the hotel,I am yet to have so much as an acknowledgment from either parties.I don’t hold much hope for the new management if this is their response to complaints.on the plus side the beds were comfortable and the shower was a power shower, unfortunately the bathroom had 4 steps to get to it which is not the best for more senior guests or those with disabilities. All in all a very disappointing experience .…
It gets five stars plus! It is in a delightful setting in the high street of Blockley. It is an old building with lots of character. It is run by a charming family who made us feel welcome and 'at home' at all times. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them! Friendly and 'warm' atmosphere in the bar too . The bedroom was well heated with excellent bath and shower facilities. It was also spotlessly clean. An ideal and memorable place to stay for walkers on the Monarch's Way! To be thoroughly recommended!
Our rooms wre ok but fairly basic and could have been cleaner. Our starters were ok but the main course bad. I had shank of lamb with veg - the Veg turned out to be a few peas and there was no gravy so a dry and lacklustre meal. The curries were rubbish with hardly any meat. We had a vegan in our party and all they could offer was rice and peas !!!! when she expressed disappointment they then offered a helping of curry sauce ! rice, peas and curry sauce. Shocking !! Breakfast was ok . Service poor.
Used previously was Ok until recently when I had found charged twice for room ie August still fighting for a refund!!. Shall book somewhere else “ be warned” .!!The loyal receptionist was great but now changed hands so has gone,
