Dave and Tracy extend a warm welcome and invite you to join them in this relaxed, warm and friendly Hotel in the heart of Essex. We bought the hotel in 2006 and have worked hard to develop a hotel where you can eat, drink and feel part of the family in a traditional English Pub setting. We have listened to what our customers want, and have a comprehensive menu with British Dishes, selected specials and we source wherever possible local ingredients. You can also enjoy our infamous carvery every Sunday, guaranteed to fill even the heartiest appetite! A fine range of ales and superb quality wines (every last one tasted by Dave - guaranteed!) are available, an excellent selection of spirits and liqueurs and to round off your evening, we have one of the best liqueur coffee menu’s for miles! We have original beams, open fireplaces, and oak floors that go creak in the night. Our hotel rooms are sympathetically refurbished, spotlessly clean and in keeping with tradition we even offer uneven and wonky 13th Century walls! All rooms have ensuite facilities, TV, tea & coffee and iron & ironing board. We can offer our function facilities for meetings, birthdays (21 and above only), anniversaries or just family get togethers, whatever the occasion we can help!We have a comfortable BBQ and Patio Garden at the rear of the premises which can be enjoyed weather permitting, and car parking is available to the rear of the hotel.

Service was ok & servers pleasant enough but food was average at best. Limp toast, undercooked pastry, over cooked vegetables, frozen berries in pudding were lows. Roast turkey, pate, cauliflower cheese, lamb shank, were highs. Disappointing overall as this venue used to have a

The room was basic as expected, but no problems with that, it was clean. The food was great and the staff super friendly. Very nice pub with a lot of draft beers (always nice to see this as a Begian beer lover). And the ambience could not be better with the Christmas

From the moment we entered the building we were made to feel welcome. We were shown to our seats and the waitress explained the menus, specials and the Carvery. The food was perfectly cooked- the gentleman serving the meat was really friendly and polite. We didn’t have starters,

We have visited many times and often experienced poor service but Megan and previously Jodie have been excellent and therefore we have returned. Food is generally good although special requests are sometimes ignored or forgotten.
