£7.80 for two pints of Diet Coke which was mainly ice ... £8 for large glass of wine ... Last time we stop for refreshment at this decidedly underwhelming hotel, Lovely building, great location, just needs someone decent to run it ... London prices in rural Essex !

We booked this hotel at the last minute and had a lovely 1 night stay. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The beds were extremely comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. Some may say the bathrooms need updating but the essentials are there with hot water in abundance, plenty of toiletries and big towels. The complimentary tea tray with... More

I am staying at the Saracens Head tonight. friendly bar. Food ok . Room ok for price, bathroom in dire need of refurbishment. Bed good. Met friends for a meal and after they left at 11 pm asked for a glass of red wine as a resident only to be told they had cashed up. Manageress escaped to the outside... More

Overnight stop (lady alone) for airport. I stayed in the former coach house where doors opens onto the courtyard. I didn't like this as at 11:50pm the noise, shouting and swearing from other clients still in the courtyard was very worrying. I decided if it didnt stop at midnight I would call reception, but miraculously it stopped without me intervening.... More

We were amazed to hear that this hotel is 600 years old; it has been so well renovated but still obviously very old. The food at dinner was unexpectedly terrific. It's in a gorgeous old street with heaps of character. If you take your own car, be careful in the carpark, as its overcrowded and parking spots are not allocated... More

Stayed here for a wedding. We didn't arrive till about midnight, and all of the other wedding guests, were trying to check in so we had to queue for a while as we had booked 26 out of 30 rooms. They could have done with another receptionist on shift. Once checked in, the room was okay, Few stains on the... More

Room was very basic, but clean. Continental breakfast was not exactly continental but the full English made up for that. Nice seating area outside and comfortable bar. No bar snacks available on a Sunday but we made do by sharing some main courses between us. There was plenty of space in the car park but I can see why there... More

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here. Both times we have been very satisfied with our room, staff and overall service. Our room clean and tidy. Breakfast was lovely, nothing too much trouble for the lovely friendly staff. The pub itself is wonderful, real olde worldly. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future. This... A little tired and in need of an improved cleaning regime as cobwebs everywhere. Room ok but nothing special. Breakfast passable but had to wait for a table as insufficient set up for the number of guests booked in. Scrambled eggs good but fried egg sadly burnt. Breakfast waiting staff delightful compared to somewhat miserable and unwelcoming receptionist. Have paid... More
