Well considering the reviews we were not expecting much but actually it was lovely. What we liked: * It WAS very clean * Staff were so so nice and very accommodating * Bed was comfortable and the sea view was lovely * Breakfast was knotting to shout about, again staff were lovely It is a shame as the outside with... It is a great location to stay in, especially if your looking for attractions. The room is missing paint 🎨 and needs decoration. It was clean and relaxing when going to sleep. On the first night 🌃 people opposite (children) where laughing and swearing at 3 in the morning and soon after seagulls chirped in. Overall a nice stay. Breakfast... More

We booked one night at the Esplanade very last minute and unfortunately had not seen the recent reviews As other reviewers said this place is in very bad repair and filthy. It felt more like emergency housing for homeless rather than a hotel. We asked to see our room before committing to staying and we're told that's fine but 'don't... More

Initial greeting you would think should be friendly and warm - not so for this place. ROOM 2 is to be avoided at all costs - windows open onto the ventilation system for the kitchen which is located beneath the room. Toilet door has no inside handle just the remains of a non functioning bolt. Floor of this room and... More

Disgusting dirty place , rude staff, also house emergencies for local Colchester council to people who are Homeless. Felt like a drop in centre for teens and drop out dosers . Drugs being smoked and loud mouth teens. smackton in Clacton . Only stayed one night and left to go to another hotel. Couldn't sleep with the noise. This is... More

No lights in the room when we arrived (switched off at fuseboard) couldn't open bathroom door properly, busted door lock, ancient hairdryer, terrible view, waited 10 minutes to check out, shower and room smelt of faeces, dirty linen outside bedrooms (in evening as well) - would never recommend!

Location is excellent, really close to the beach which was great for an evening stroll, and far enough from the bars and pubs so it's pretty quiet. When I arrived my reservation wasn't ready and there was a bit of confusion. Instead of sorting it, the guy was VERY RUDE and customer service was terrible. Room was very dated and... More

Right on the seafront we had a great family room, no 3, where the kids room was completely separate from ours. Big bonus for young family! The refurbished bits were fab, v clean, new carpet and fittings. I guess not complete as bathroom window shoddy and bits n pieces need attention but nothing to affect our comfortable stay! Great big... More

We received Friendly service, evening food was ok but breakfast was lovely, hotel was clean but a little tatty round the edges but then it is an old building, parking in the hotel was impossible but we managed to park locally. It was a little noisey at night with people banging about but that's not the hotels fault, overall it... More
