Very disappointing. When we arrived at the hotel we were stood waiting at reception for about 15 mins until we decided to go downstairs and find someone. We then got checked in and given our room keys, then entered the room to find- Blood on the curtain and walls. Hole in the bath, burnt lampshade, toilet roll holder broken, shower... More

I've stayed here a couple of times. For the price it's not that bad for Chelmsford, if you have looked at prices. The good points it's clean for the high use it gets. The bedding is clean and the bathroom. Rooms have been painted. You get a good quality fan for the single rooms and ok showers. You get a... More

Please, pleeeease don't stay here! Unless you're A) a homeless person who is grateful for any kind of roof over your head, no matter how disgustingly scabby it may be, and B) an insomniac who wouldn't mind getting only ten minutes of sleep. When I arrived, there wasn't a soul to be seen on reception. The faux leather seats covered... More

As Protestants we were delighted by the vibe of this hotel. There was a Louis Theroux special on white supremacists on the TV which we found riveting. We found it somewhat amusing that there were two coffee cups with coffee sachets in them but no kettle. It didn't impact on our enjoyment as we don't indulge in the devil's nectar.... More

Stayed here with a couple of friends for 1 night. Hotel is in a great location and the pub it's self is decent. But the rooms are just a joke! Flies in the room when we first entered, the carpet looks as if it hasn't been washed in years, the wardrobes were falling apart, they provide tea making facilities but... More

You can't tell the book by the cover applies here. The quaint, historic exterior hides the worst bedrooms I've encountered in a hotel. Uncomfortable beds, lights that didn't work, dubious looking bedlinen and zero security: the bar's often drunk customers, as well as outsiders, have full access to the rooms, the doors of which might as well be made of... Don't book here if you value a good night's sleep and your health and cleanliness. Bed bugs. Itch all over. Horrendous cleanliness. Dated, delapidated shabby rooms. Couldn't sleep as there was too much noise.

I read reviews but always go with an open mind but the bad reviews for are true! Downstairs looks lovely and obviously that is where the money has been spent as upstairs hotel bedrooms are awful; When first arrived went to loo but it wouldn't flush but thought just a 1 off . I leaned on the "dressing"table which was not... More

We booked a last minute room as we had a night out in Chelmsford. The positives....location and when you enter the reception area you think "this is quite nice" and then you get to your room! The negatives....the door just about locked, the decor was dated, the tv didn't work unless you wiggled the wires to get a signal, my... More
