Stayed here last month and was put off by bad reviews but could find no where else at all so went despite reviews, ok it's dated and the bathroom is retro avocado circa 1970 but it was clean and friendly , the continental breakfast did look a bit grim but there is a lovely cafe next door that does fantastic... I stayed at The Chequers Inn for a wedding nearby, and at £75 for a single occupancy double room with continental breakfast I was expecting a pretty good place. It really, really wasn't - the rooms are in dire need of updating, with avocado bathroom suites, dingy shower curtains, lumpy mattresses, and the cheapest pillows I've encountered for a long... This is a 600 year old pub cum restaurant cum hotel. It looks old from the outside. It has a nice smelling fireplace. It could/ should be a nice place to stay. .. but it isn't. OK. .. so it's only a 2 star. . So you don't expect to many amenities. .. but that's not where the problem is.... More

I'm giving an average score on this one as I left disappointed overall with my stay. At £75 a night I would expect a little bit more quality and service I hate to say, we checked in for a one night stay and also decided to eat there the same evening and sample a few of there local ales during... Poor breakfast, no wifi in hotel room. The shower and beds are very bed. Everything that has been written about this hotel is tue, very poor price quality. I would not recommend this place. Bar is okay. Nice building, but only from the outside.

nice place to stay if it's for 1 or 2 nights, ground floor is the best rooms to stay where they have en-suite, top rooms is basic with bed and sink, toilets and shower is shared, not a good idea, but overall ideally located.

Stayed in Room 36 - upgraded to 4 poster, the room was roomy enough and had 2 full leather armchairs and a old surface marked drawer chest that the tea/coffee tray was trying to hide, the decor is dated but neutral but overall has seen better days. The bathroom is similarly dated but the hot water supply was excellent. The... More

tried to book B and B in nearby Crowborough but all full, so even though we saw some Basil Fawlty reviews we crossed our fingers and said it is a bed for the night. Got the feeling we were the only ones booked in. The bedroom was so frumpy, maybe 1960s and with a dash of botched repair in pinky... More

My partner and I stopped off in Forest row to grab some lunch. We entered the pub and were the only customers which made us feel a little weary. The decor is very un- inviting and the girl working behind the bar didn't know anything about the menu. Despite this we foolishly ordered (because there isn't really anywhere else in... More

I am so disappointed by this pub. Sitting outside in the sun with a drink is lovely but inside is a mess. The room is very odd, hardly any tables all fairly big. We ordered our food and after 40 mins enquired as to where our starters were. He said they were just coming and then went off and brought... More
