Booked overnight stay based on reviews. Room was comfortable but dated. Restaurant staff knowledgeable, large wine choice but expensive. Choose cod with mustard crust for main, big mistake, chef should try eating this dish, the mustard overwhelmed the whole dish. This venue needs to decide if it's a pub with food and accommodation or a restaurant with a well stocked bar, as...

Our neighbours are regulars here so we thought we would try it. The garden room we stayed in was very spacious with big twin beds and a sofa. The bathroom was fine but could do with touching up, for example the bath plug was broken from its chain. The food was wonderful. The full breakfast kept you going all day...

Close to the marshes and pebbly beach THE ANCHOR is at the heart of the pretty village of Walberswick. There’s a whole variety bird life and great walks along the shore. You can also visit St. Andrew’s church and explore the surrounding countryside. After a warm welcome I found my room spacious, comfortable and nicely furnished, with views across to...

We spent two nights here and were extremely comfortable. It is situated in a charming village with walks by the sea. The menu was good and the food excellent. Comfortable bar and dining room with plenty of room. We were very impressed and the staff were friendly and efficient.

We have been going to the Anchor for over thirty years and it gets better and better. Sophie and Mark are very helpful and brilliant hosts. Luke the front of house manager makes sure everything is as you would want. The staff will always try and go the extra mile and nothing is too much trouble.

We are very lucky to have the Anchor so close to us. My Daughter and I went for lunch recently and sat at the "Locals Table" such a good touch. Both our lunch choices were excellent, we love the atmosphere and the staff are always lovely too, the wine and beer choices are great just a shame we were driving...

A Friday dinner at The Anchor (we were staying a short walk away at The Hobbit House, also highly recommended) turned out to be the best pub meal we have had this year. Not only was the food superb (we both opted for fish which was as good as you would want it to be so close to the sea),...

Another great weekend at the Anchor. We stayed in room 11, which had everything we needed. The beer, as always was excellent the Ghost Ship was superb, as was the Mosaic. Sophie's cuisine was brilliant, beating everything else we have eaten since our last visit, the roast cod with braised fennel in particular was outstanding. The full English breakfast is...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A village pub with a difference. Our addiction to fresh, top quality, locally sourced where possible produce, combined with a thirst for excellence have evolved into what has been described as a "must go to place on the Suffolk coast." Our approach to food is robust; we want to put on each plate satisfying combinations of flavours and textures. We have a good range of characterful draught beers, and numerous world class bottled beers, organic soft drinks and over 150 drop dead lovely wines from some of the earth’s most inspired winemakers. We offer the same menu throughout, with more formal Restaurant dining on a bookings basis and more relaxed walk-ins, in the Bar. We also have seating for 150 outside on three terraces, with table service available for those warmer days. Our renovated flint barn is a highly versatile space, equipped with a drop-down screen and a projector, ideal for business meetings, strategy reviews, team building exercises, corporate training, presentations, film showings or private parties to mention just a few of its uses. It has been put to good use in the cause of village based charity fund raising projects as well as providing the theatre for Food Safari events, cask beer festivals and the Aldebrough Doc. Fest. fringe event weekend November 2011. Free time relaxation can include everything from Golf at several well established Courses, to Horse Riding at Bramfield Equestrian Centre, Sky Diving for all levels at Beccels, Aromatherapy in walking distance or sea fishing of Walberswick Coast with Mark Felton. Beer Academy and WSCT (Wine and Spirits) educational courses are available by arrangement. Our Hotel Accommodation: We have just undergone a thorough renovation of our Now Cedar Clad Chalets, enhancing the environment in which to enjoy the Sea View. We offer 10 rooms in total, 6 spacious en suite room garden chalets, as well as several room options in the main building. All the rooms have a large flat screen TV, with Freeview and IPod Alarm Clock docking Stations. Ample free parking is provided with direct access to the beach, Dunwich Forest or the Marshes. RSPB Minsmere, Southwold and Aldeburgh are all close by. ... more   less
