We were walking the Lancaster Canal with our dog and had booked here overnight. Our welcome was lovely and the young girl had actually taken our bags up to our room for us as they had been taken for us. There was a dog bed in the room so the dog was happy. The room was clean and the bed... More

We stayed here in August for 2 nights in a family room. This was a large room in the pub building at the front - so there was some road noise but it did not disturb us - and there were black out blinds to shut out the pub external lighting. The large king or superking bed was extremely comfortable... More

Took my wife for a meal expecting a decent pub meal. Unfortunately we didn't get it. Service was excruciating slow, seemed to wait an age for our order to be taken and then about 35 minutes for our starters of pate and garlic bread which to be fair was nice. The main courses were poor. The gammon was ok but... More

We wanted a reasonably priced stopover, with comfortable rooms and we got that and more. Very welcoming staff with good quality pub grub - it may not be fancy food but it is well prepared and there is plenty of it. Thoroughly recommend it and will be booking again if we get up to the lakes again soon. A great... More

We hadn't being for a while and were on our way to the north Pennines and decided a 10 mile detour for lunch was worth it based on previous experiences. Well we weren't disappointed. Met by Jemima ( bright and bouncy young lady from Down Under, ) , drinks dispensed, food ordered... We ordered fish and chips, a simple meal,... More

I stayed in early August and having spent all day outside, very unprepared, I arrived red as a beetroot with sunburn. The lady owner very kindly took pity on me and brought me some aftersun at breakfast the next morning! That kind of service is what makes the difference. Food was lovely and room was clean and comfortable plus dog... More

Delightful old hotel and beautiful fresh locally sourced food and varied and ever changing specials with an excellent range of northern cask ales - well worth visiting whether it be for business or pleasure.

We have driven past so many times to and from work and decided in our holiday break to try it out. We ate at 5 ish. It was very quiet and we were the only diners at one point but they still treated us professionally. Excellent service to the table too. This was the BEST ever steak and kidney pudding... More
