Certificate of Excellence
Basecamp Hotel is situated right at the heart of Longyearbyen, among restaurants, pubs, shops and bank. It is absolutely Longyearbyen's most amazing hotel; decorated in traditional trapper's style with driftwood, sealskins, pictures and objects that illustrate the past and current trappers' life in the Arctic. Despite its rusticity, Basecamp Hotel offers high quality accommodation with unique style! Basecamp Hotel is part of Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen, which operates day trips and expeditions to Isfjord Radio, Trapper’s Station and Nordenskiöld Lodge.

Super friendly staff, extremely helpful to find alternatives after a trip got cancelled due to bad weather conditions. The hotel is nice and cosy right in the heart of Longyearbyen, a definite recommendation to stay.

Arrived tired and late with only 50% of our luggage so not a great start but not the hotels fault. Hotel room was extremely hot and you could have fried eggs on the floor in the bathroom. Towels were rough and far too small. There was no temperature control so it was difficult to sleep even though we were tired. Everything was recycled which is a great idea but doors, walls and bed frame were too rough for my taste. Experience yes - would I return No!! Good orange juice.

This is a super-interesting hotel - lots of wood and seal skins throughout. There is a quiet lounge on the upper floor. WiFi is very good. Breakfast is decent. They are well equipped to deal with skiers. Lovely soap and shampoo in the rooms. Staff are welcoming and very helpful.

Basecamp is a rustic, log cabin feeling place. The decor is heavy on wood. Bottom line is it does the job. There is a nice lounge area to hang out and use WiFi and the rooms are small but efficient. You could stay in a more traditional hotel down the road but this is Svalbard.

Basecamp Hotel is the most authentic experience you can have in Longyear byen. Built from driftwood, each room is unique and you feel the spirit of the trappers who first populated the island. Breakfast is great and the service very kind and helpful. Location is very good - in the middle of the city between stores, restaurants and pubs! Clearly the best place you can stay in Longyearbyen.
