As a group of 4 parents & 3 teens age 17 we spent 4 nights at this beautifully located hotel. Our junior suite was a beautiful, corner room with two balconies directly overlooking the sea, very clean, with generally kind & helpful staff who explained the beach towel policy - 10 euro deposit, allows you a clean beach towel every day, 10e refund when you return your towel at end of stay. If you are in a suite, you also get to use a very comfortable beach sun bed without extra charge. Our friends were also given a better room at no extra cost, when they explained they were not happy with the first split level room offered. The hotel location was excellent for a holiday with teens - lots of shops, ice cream parlours, restaurants, bars with football screens including McDonalds within a short distance of the hotel. Hotel Cooked Buffet Breakfast was adequate & included a choice of almond & soya milk, cooked eggs, baked beans, pastries, fruit, salad with a few different items offered different on each day. On the beach, the beach bed & a la carte service was prompt, reasonably priced & efficient from a very hard working young lady & man called Phillip. The three biggest negatives were a)the loud music from the sea front played from around midnight until about 4 a m - bring noise reduction headphones or ear plugs or choose a room well away from the sea front with a side sea view b) the hotel policy of not allowing half board guests to choose outside tables for breakfast or evening meal even when there are tables free - as they reserve the best tables for a la Carte guests - the breakfast area is a bit cramped & dismal unless you are lucky enough to grab one of two nicer larger tables nearer to the sea. Due to the positioning of a large plant pot it was impossible for us to move tables together to sit as a group of 7 & we had to squash up around one smaller table- yet there were 2 larger tables with stunning sea views a few feet away which would easily have accommodated us - had the policy allowed half board guests this privilege!! C) the half board set menu is great for meat & fish eaters but a bit repetitive & limited for vegetarians e g risotto or pasta as main course - that having been said - the mushroom risotto was delicious, the starters of beetroot falafels or tzatziki were good, as was the Greek salad, cous cous salad & portion sizes of fresh fruit dessert were very generous. On day 4 - when I explained this was my 3 rd risotto (due to limited vegetarian main choices) - the waitress also produced two extra side dishes of bean salad & quinoa. All in all, this is a lovely hotel, but, if you have a sea view room, make sure you bring noise reduction headphones & your own choice of music unless you too party every night until 4 a m!! Photo below: - the tables empty waiting for a la carte guests a) at breakfast b) at sunset - so sad, as us half board guests were not allowed to eat at these tables; even when I complained & asked if our group of 7 could reserve the larger table, I was told this was not possible due to hotel policy & we would have to eat 3 of us on one table & 4 on another. Please, hotel management, change this policy to allow all your guests to fully enjoy the stunning location.

We are recommending this place first of all because of the location, second - clean and fresh room condition and the least but not least - service. Such service we were never faced before. All the guests are important for Nikos (hotel owner). Come and enjoy your trip :)

Our experience with Kahlua Hotel has begun quite poorly. Arrival: We opted for the most expensive option of a suite with a frontal sea-view and a side balcony, however the room we were given at first, had a small side balcony, without a frontal visibility of the sea. Being surprised and convinced it must have been a mistake, I went to the reception and talked to the lady, who insisted that the room we were given is of the same kind that one we paid for (not to mention we were studying the photos of the different rooms with attention to detail, and went with the most expensive one, paying extra to be sure we got the best of what's there). As I failed to convince the reception lady, who by the way showed a lot of disputable attitude, that we're not in the right place, my partner went again and she succeeded to win as what we paid for. However the ugly impression remained from the start, as it's worse than not nice to have to argue for something that has been properly booked, and paid for. The room: The junior suite with frontal sea view has a great potential, with a balcony coming up directly to the sea, giving you impression of almost being above it. However what struck us from the start, was how poorly maintained the rooms are. All walls were dirty as if somebody walked on them with dirty shoes. There was a spider web, and significant dirt on the floors, glass barriers on the balconies were awfully dirty, and general impression we've had was that it could be a much nicer, even a great place if only someone would put a little bit of effort to make it so (please see uploaded photos). Food: Basically the facility is divided into a 'VIP/Elite Beach Bar' and the 'Kahlua Suites'. As guest within the hotel, we were given 10% discount in the Beach Bar, as well as sunbeds free of charge (for others it's 8 or 10 euro per day as I recall). The dining place is nothing extraordinary, however the quality of food served for breakfasts and dinners is far below any acceptable standard! Vegetables and fruits are great, as everywhere on Crete, however warm dishes, meat, seafood, it's something I wouldn't recommend to anyone with a weaker stomach. Even though we've had half board, consisting of breakfasts and dinners, after 2 or 3 days, my girlfriend would not join me there as she couldn't force herself to even try this food, which basically is on a level of a poor-school canteen. I'm still shocked, how hard it is to fail in preparing a simple omelette, and how can you serve food to your guests which looks like done from the cheapest possible ingredients one could possibly get (specially that everywhere the quality of food is rather fantastic). What made us even more disappointed, was that the food served just next to the canteen, within the Beach Bar, was great and super delicious, as we used to eat few dishes every day while staying on the beach. Facilities: There's a small pool, that honestly we have not used even a single time, as we've seen no reason to do so, while having a beach and sea right in front of the hotel. There's nothing else but it's a small and slender place, which is a part of it's charm, so nothing more should be expected in that area. Service: Probably the best side of this place. Right from the front I have to mention Emilia, amazing lady on duty of serving food in the canteen. She engages all the people coming from breakfast and dinners, has great attitude and charm which can make your day better. Furthermore, Matheo, who has been our waiter during days on the beach, also with a sunny attitude, above average quality of service, and engaging sense of humor as well as plenty of advices. Basically these two people alone made our stay there much better than it could ever be without them. To summarize: We both really enjoyed our 1-week long holiday in Crete and Hersonissos, place is beautiful, local people are very nice, warm and show a lot of hospitality! Food is amazing, in all the places we went to, we've had nothing but great dinners. We will surely come back to Crete, however this time we will not risk with a food in a hotel, as in the end we end up going out to eat almost on every given occasion. Kahlua Hotel could be much better than it is at the moment, however it seems pretty obvious that a change of management is more than required for that to happen. It's not a bad place, but not great either, and we think that in it's current condition, surely not worth the money that's being asked for.

We stayed in this hotel 4 nights with my daughter. Firstly its not quite a family hotel, because the Beach Bar belongs to the hotel is very very popular and all night youngsters are partying there. Its impossible to sleep. Location is great ! Beach Bar and beach side is super, bar staff very kind ! Always very attentive, especially a nice guy who always took care about our comfortness, bringing extra sun umbrella during the hot sunny hours and always pass by if we need something :) Food: i paid half board ... well this is the one negative part I can tell about our stay. There was a lovely girl, Elena who served us from the buffet because covid we can not touch the foods. Breakfast was really low, some eggs, and very bad qualtiy, sausages, they looked like left over from last day. Dinner is similar. No taste food, very low quality and poor choice. Last day we went outside both for breakfast and dinner I didnt care I paid it. Cleaniness: it was ok. First day I had to ask in the afternoon if they will clean our room ? And after they did. Later it was ok, we got fresh clean towels every day, room cleaned, tidied, and even bedsheet was changed. Room: very simple, nothing special, but comfortable bed. Bathroom: no door on the shower so all water went out.... Location: very good, shops, restaurants, beach right next. We generally enjoyed our stay, would go back again.
