This hotel is closed and love holidays are fully aware of this yet they continue to advertise it as available. They will allow you to book this hotel and then they will change you 7 days before your holiday. They transfer you to Eri Beach which is dirty, small rooms and disgusting food.

We have just arrived back from a 2 weeks break (8 of us) although we booked “aqua sun village” which we found out on the day was in fact closed we got taken to this hotel. The Hotel isn’t as awful as some of these reviews although it is incredibly basic the pools make up for the basic food saying that there is something for every one but be prepared to wait for plates and spoons this became a fun game after 2 weeks your on holiday there’s no rush! Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and toilet paper and a good view and size so no complaints there. Drinks package for all inclusive is very basic cocktails you have to pay from 9€ for from the beach bar. Entertainments needs a lot of improvement. All in all though if you’re looking for great fun with the children then the pools and slides available are ideal and hours of fun I think we found 5 pools around the complex (one salt water) There is 2 parks however neither have flood lights which is needed in the evening. Over all experience it’s VERY basic but you make your own fun.

We booked Aqua Sun for 2020 but due to Covid couldn't go, i saw Aqua sun pop back up last year so booked it for July 2023. Booked through Love Holidays who were obviously advertising Aqua Sun. On arrival into Crete we were told our hotel Aqua Sun was closed and we'd been relocated to Eri Beach. Turns out our hotel wasn't just closed its been stood derelict for 3plus yrs so shouldn't have been advertised. First thought was great its right on the beach, better than the 20minute steep walk down the hill to the beach from Aqua Sun. We saw plenty of slides (our reason for booking Aqua Sun so the children were amused) Room at Eri Beach seemed clean enough but then we walked around within 5minutes we saw alot that needed sorting I'll add a few photos, we told staff about an electrical cable hanging down that looked live he said he'd sort it instantly it never was sorted. Tiles everywhere just placed over holes. Food was not pleasant full of oil very repetitive, my children are not fussy eaters but 2 out of 3 lived on fruit when we didn't go out to eat, so the all inclusive was pointless. All bars shut at 10pm, if you were queuing they wouldn't serve you they'd roll the shutters down in your face at 10pm. Trying to get food was a nightmare people just pushing in and shouting at each other, we came across 2 other English families, Eri Beach seemed prominently more German families. Tiles missing in the pools making edges sharp.

The hotel is nice enough, the towels are always clean, but I want to say thanks to Hare at the beach bar is super, made delicious cocktails and nice to talk to. It's a paid bar, but it's cool. We spent every evening there!❤️

Firstly, I read the reviews after booking and was so upset I’d booked this hotel right up until we arrived. The hotel isn’t the worst in the entire world but it is far from the best and is definitely NOT all inclusive. The food wasn’t very good at meal times but as there is no snacks between meals we kind of had to find something to eat with the hotel being on its own it isn’t like there is somewhere close to grab something else If you don’t like the buffet. The buffet was the same not very pleasant food every day for lunch and dinner. Drinks are not all inclusive you can have ouzo, local draft beer and wine and that is it everything else you have to pay for. The staff here are a mixed bunch with some being really friendly and doing their best and others that are down right rude. The guests are mainly German and are very rude particularly at meal times, one lady actually pushed my 6 year old out of the way to get to the chips first. There is no entertainment of an evening and the all inclusive finishes quite early so it’s best to go out of an evening. But here is the worst part, to get to and from hersonissos you must be extremely fit or if you have children like us then you must be willing to pay taxis every time you leave the complex. The hotel is half way up a mountain and going down isn’t too bad but coming up is killer. Not only on your legs but the cars are swinging round the roads at speeds and it’s terrifying with children. It seems all I have focused on is the negatives but I have to say we had a lovely time but this was mainly due to Hersonisos itself. It’s beautiful and we took part in so many lovely trips. Star beach club is at the bottom of the climb to the hotel and we had a lovely afternoon there. The pools at the hotel are ok they are salt water though and my sons eyes where really sore he had to keep getting out. But the slides are fun and for the price it isn’t as bad as some reviews have made out but it is not somewhere I would visit again. The Greek workers out and about are lovely and they made our holiday! The food in the local restaurants is superb and reasonably priced!

For the past 12 years we have only visited Greece and Greek Islands. Our favourite island is Crete and this was our 5th visit and 3rd to Hersonissos. Unfortunately this was by far the worst and most expensive. Long story short, there are so many nicer hotels with better accommodation, safer and cleaner amenities, better quality food, friendlier more helpful staff, entertainment, atmosphere and location. If you want the long story, read on. Ok, so we booked a year in advance, were sold a holiday at the Aqua sun village 4*hotel. We paid more than any other Greek holiday and expected this to be the best. Shortly before we arrived we noticed the positive reviews plummeting. A lot of the negativity was towards the food and entertainment (lack of) we convinced ourselves that the negative reviews were due to fussy eaters or people who were expecting broadway entertainment instead of the usual island hotel entertainment, however within 24 hours of arrival our hearts sank as we realised all the negative reviews were true. Firstly, the hotel is not the Aqua sun village, it is the Eri sun village. The name Aqua is absolutely no where at this hotel. On arrival there was no food (a cold plate of meats or crackers would have sufficed (hotel next door have food available for guests what ever time you arrive) children were hungry so the hubby walked the long dark road down the mountain (no light and dangerous corners) to get food. In the morning we were hopeful and excited about the slides. Stairs leading up to slides need rubber mats as they are seriously dangerous. The edges of the steps have sharp jagged broken beading (my son cut his foot) there were 3 slides. Although there were life guards people were still acting reckless on them and we witnessed so many children slip and hurt themselves, so I tried to keep my children away from them. We spent the rest of the holiday by the quieter, newer pool as we felt it was much safer. This was a shame as the reason we booked this hotel was for the slides. There had also been an incident at the hotel covered in the news and confirmed by hotel staff and guests the week before we arrived. Other tour operators had pre-warned guests of the safety issues and moved people to alternative accommodation. Purple travel travel with whom we booked with did not inform us and when we contacted them they were unable to find us alternative accommodation. So we were stuck and decided to try and still enjoy ourselves and hold on tight to our kids. Food: great disappointment. Coming from Greek heritage I felt the food was an insult to the Greeks. Cheap meats (if lucky) poor quality, swimming in oil, raw eggs & chicken, repetitive, unappetising, not fresh. Even the olive oil (which Greece is famous for and has an abundance of) was just vegetable oil with a hint of olive oil thrown in. The staff didn’t even touch it and I could only laugh when I saw the manager take out a secret stash of his own olive oil to pour on his salad. No snacks in between meals. Drinks are all awful. Even water tastes weird. We spent a fortune eating out which for an all inclusive holiday was an expense we were not expecting. Staff: reception staff were rude and unhelpful. Spoke to them politely and tried to strike friendly conversation in both Greek and English but got yes or no answers. They were what the Greeks would describe as “oxini” sour faced and unfriendly. When my daughter asked for more towels as we were always left one short and on one particular day we were left 3 short she was rudely asked “how did you dirty them” she replied that she hadn’t and the lady was very short with her, she came back to me in tears. Only on one occasion did I come across a younger lad at reception who conducted himself in a friendly and professional manner. Lifeguards - female lifeguard takes her job seriously and works very hard. Lifeguard by the quiet pool near family rooms very friendly and helpful. Restaurant staff - waiters and waitresses work their socks off. Such lovely people who have the mammoth task of dealing with so many guest. No way near enough staff for the amount of tables. Shame on the owners for not hiring more staff. It was almost painful watching them slave away. Many times I tried to help but they were quick to stop me, insisting it was my holiday and I should let them serve me. Maitre d barks orders at them and would yell at them until my father took him aside quietly and explained that it was unprofessional to reprimand staff in front of guests. After that he changed and clearly felt embarrassed. I don’t think he realised we understood what he was saying. He tried his best to make it up to us but I hope he continued to treat his staff respectfully after we left. If you have any mobility issues PLEASE do not book this hotel. The lift was out of service at least once a day and my disabled mother had a nightmare of a time accessing and leaving her room. Every time we complained we were told “it needs a new fuse” so fix it then! 😡 we were there for 3 weeks and it was never fixed. Rooms and cleanliness : the rooms were not spotless but were fairly clean. Good size and storage. The shower was a nightmare, curtain pole kept falling, shower head fell and cut my nieces nose and floor was always wet and slippery. Sheets were changed twice in 3 weeks. Beds had no mattress protectors!!! Ill fitting sheets would slide to the side and you would wake up on the mattress 🤢 Entertainment - a very quick mini disco for kids and that’s it! Shortly after that bar closes for all inclusive but you could buy drinks which were equally awful and sit listening to extremely loud music where you couldn’t even hear the person next to you. Location - we knew it was up a mountain but were under the impression the food would be good, we could safely walk to town, the kids could play on slides safely all day and in the evenings we would enjoy watching the entertainment and socialising with our family and friends. As none of the above was applicable, we had to hire a car (another expense we hadn’t anticipated) and spent as much time away from the hotel as possible. I know some people have mentioned that they feel some of the reviews are harsh. For some staying for a shorter period of time they won’t find the food so bad or repetitive, maybe paying a low price, maybe not having young children and safety concerns, they may be satisfied with this hotel and have the “you get what you paid for” attitude . Well, we certainly didn’t get what we paid for. We paid for a four star and got a two star at best. We were stuck there for 3 weeks. and this was by far the worst hotel we have stayed at in Crete. Add the additional cost of what we spent trying to salvage this holiday (eating out, buying decent drinks and snacks, car hire & entertainment) we could have stayed at a 5* all inclusive resort. Crete as an island is absolutely beautiful, so much History, archeology, stunning scenery, caves, lakes, beaches etc. The Cretans themselves are wonderful people. Please don’t let this hotel spoil that for you.

Just returned from a 10 day stay at Aqua Sun... Had read very negative reviews and was apprehensive when arrived.... I was very pleased with my room, better than any I have stayed in so far... Beds changed and clean towels daily... Beautiful views from balcony of the water park and sea views.... Pools and slides were great and my grandchildren were in them every day 10/6... Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas to lounge on all day... Lifeguards on duty at the pool.... Not big drinkers, but enjoyed the beer with lemonade, kids had coke, lemonade, limeade or orange.... Tea n coffee available all day too from pool bar.... Enjoyed the music playing all day....short walk downhill to local shops but didn't do the walk back up, 7 euros in taxi and well worth it... My daughter n grandkids did the walk back up, but not for me.... Hard working kitchen staff and lovely, friendly "egg man", although his eggs need cooking more than he does them....All in all, had a lovely stay... Will not miss the steep hills, or the bloody stairs... Please do not be put off by these uncalled for bad reviews.... Go. Relax and enjoy

We stayed here mid-August and were concerned having read some of the very negative reviews before we left. The hotel was much better than the reviews made out! We had an adjoining room for 4 people and this worked well. There was plenty of space, a balcony in each room, and bathroom with shower gel and soap provided. The rooms were clean and towels were changed, beds made etc daily. There are a couple of pools which are decent sizes. We sat by the pool complex with the waterslides. There were always free sunbeds, and this was mid-August - makes a nice change from the 6am sunbed reservation towel fight! There was some activities going on by the pool each day, and music. The slides were good fun. The hotel has one restaurant to cater for everyone, but we thought this was done well given the number of people to cater for. There was plenty of choice of food and it was nice! Don't really know what people were complaining about - it's a 3-star hotel not 5. Each day there were different hot dishes to choose from and lovely Greek salads. Plenty of choice at breakfast, with eggs cooked fresh. In the evening there was always a choice of meats, with pasta, rice, bread, chips and some local Greek dishes - something for everyone! The all inclusive drinks were a choice of beer, white or red wine, cola, or ouzo and lemonade seemed to be popular when we were there! The evening's were a little disappointing as there was nothing going on! You could either sit in the bar by reception where there was one pool table, or by the pool bar where they had a kids disco, and music on till about 10pm. We ventured down into the local town a couple of times and there was some lovely bars and restaurants along the seafront. It was a bit of a climb back up to the hotel afterwards (as people have said) but not really that bad if you're fit and able, or a cab was 8 euro. All in all, we enjoyed our week here and it was far better than we were expecting.

Family holiday with my sister and 5 children all ages between 6-12. Yes it’s a bit dated needs a lick of paint. Only one restaurant so it’s busy and the food is a bit bland but all edible and lots of choice. Salads were lovely. Only wine and beer to drink. Red wine horrible. But the pools were good the slides were fun. The beach wasn’t far we walked it as the mini bus was always rammed and seemed a little safer to walk. Up a hill to get back but we were used to that as our apartment was at the very top of a hill. We were fitter by the end of the holiday- not a bad thing! Under staffed and the staffed worked hard! Always polite. Lots of different nationalities Israelis I think a lot were. Definitely not 5 star more of a 2-3 You get what you pay for. Rooms were cleaned daily- or at least beds were made and towels were changed daily. Cheap family holiday couldn’t ask for more really. Kids had a great time. Don’t think il be returning thou.

We have just arrived home from a fantastic weeks holiday at this hotel , I won’t lie I was having sleepless nights after reading some reviews , I was dreading it , like everyone we look forward to our holiday and want to have the best time , well we certainly did !! We arrived late in the evening so couldn’t really see much around us view wise , it was on a very steep hill and carting 3 large suitcases , 3 hand luggage cases and 2 back packs was a little bit of a mission , didn’t put us off though even the many flights of stairs. Once in the room we still weren’t disappointed , yes the rooms are a little dated but are fully equipped with everything you need , including a fridge and the all important air conditioning ( very much needed in peak time ) , the rooms were absolutely spotless with plenty of towels and bedding , myself and my mum had taken some bedding of our own due to my youngest and my mum having skin reactions in the past at other places , still wasn’t an issue though! We went off to bed and I woke around 5.30 ( I was excited haha ) I left everyone else in bed and went out to the terrace to watch the sun rise , wow oh wow the views were amazing we had a fab view of the water slides and 2 of the pools , a fabulous sea view and due to being in the mountain cove also a stunning mountain view. We headed down to breakfast and I’m not sure why people are moaning about the food on offer because there was plenty to choose from , my daughter has been known to be picky but she was tucking into all sorts , my son however didn’t really try and awful lot but still ate plenty throughout the holiday , it isn’t the same food all the time like some have stated , they do vary the meats , yes you have the likes of pasta , chips , melon and salad everyday but other items change daily. The rooms are cleaned every single day and bedding and towels are changed , unless you pop your DO NOT DISTURB sign on your door , I was a little wary and worried they would take my sons bedding and I wouldn’t have had anything for him but they didn’t , they just left his. The pool area is very slippy when it’s wet but come on who allows there children to barg around when they could slip and hurt themselves , it’s common sense people to tell them not to do it!! My son was already wary and wore his sliders to the pool. They do blow the whistle an awful lot but if children / adults didn’t mess about on the water slides it wouldn’t happen , I wouldn’t class this as a problem! The staff work so so hard and they are polite , helpful and get involved with the activities , there’s plenty for everyone to do with the kids park area , kids club and activities they have going on in the day , they have the gym and aqua aerobics every morning for guests to do , during the evening they have the kids disco , face painting and games then later on they have karaoke , the young girl reps are absolutely fantastic with all the children. We ventured down to the front , they have a mini bus to take you down at certain times of the day , and bring you back so if you stick to the times they do the runs you do not need to get a taxi , if you do get a taxi then it’s only €7 which is neither here nor there , we also went into the main town which cost us €10 in a taxi and took the children to the aquarium and reptile rescue centre , it’s only small but certainly worth a visit and has English people working there , we all loved it . Overall we had a very very enjoyable holiday and we were absolutely gutted when our week was up , I wish I would have booked longer , again please don’t worry regarding the negative reviews , we found nothing to be negative about.
