1/5 just now on Google Unbelievable experience with this hotel- my husband and I stayed stayed the night on the 4th and when we checked out we received our receipt for $150, the correct amount. On the way home I checked my bank account and noticed a $600 charge from Glidden House. I called and no one was available to speak to me so I left a voicemail. The next day I spoke with the accountant who told me my card was used for another persons room!!! I have no idea how that even happens! He assured me he was reversing the charges. I got a letter from him to give to my bank stating I was charged incorrectly and my funds Needed to be released. This morning I checked my account and found that instead of being refunded, he charged me the amount I was supposed to get back. On top of that I had another $700 charge pending from Glidden House! I went into my bank and had to have the charges disputed and a new card issued. I have been calling since the 5th to get ahold of the GM, Tom and he never answers the phone. I left a voicemail this morning, didn’t get a return call and finally called again this evening and explained the situation to the woman at the desk who was “able to catch him.” When I explained to him that I was understandably upset by this situation and extremely concerned about my card being charged upwards of $1,000 and that they were fraudulent charges, he was dismissive and rude. This was my husband and I’s first anniversary weekend and this mess was caused by something sketchy going on with their staff or billing department. He even had the nerve to laugh at me when I was telling him I don’t care about the hours he works- that’s not why I called and not my problem. Luckily, my bank couldn’t have been more helpful as they recognized they were fraudulent charges and disputed all of them quickly. Here’s my advice- don’t book here period. They are a mess and if something goes wrong with your billing, the accountant has no idea how to reverse charges. Or more than likely, they will charge hundreds of dollars on your card and not care to call you back or fix the issue. Avoid this Hotel at all costs. If you have to stay here- use a credit card to make it simple for your CC company to shut their scamming down immediately.

I want to thank the staff here for their care and concern during this time (esp. Amanda, who took the time to call and email me prior to our visit to reassure us about safety, since would be visiting with elderly family.). We had a great stay while in town visiting family, and we felt safe with the space and the staff policies. Our room was clean and comfortable with a great view of the gardens. The outdoor space was AMAZING where you could sit and enjoy coffee or a meal and feel distanced from people. We will want to stay here for every visit to Cleveland! Thank you.

We stayed at Glidden House just after they re-opened in June 2020. We talked to a couple of people before coming to Cleveland and they reassured us that there were not too many guests expected, they would be cleaning the common areas and rooms extra carefully, the check- in would be contact-less, etc. We upgraded to a suite and were disappointed to find that there was trash in the bathroom and sitting room and the bed was messy. The phone in the room wasn't working so we had to go back down to the reception and they moved us to a less desirable suite. The only response we got about why the trash was in the original suite was that it had not been cleaned since they closed down in March. Really? We thought they were cleaning extra carefully??? The reception staff wore masks but we also saw cleaning staff and a bell boy not wearing masks. And there was a wedding at Glidden house on the last day we were there, with many people around, and not one wearing a mask. Given that we went to visit an elderly family member in Cleveland who was with us at Glidden house, we were glad to be leaving so he didn't have to be on the only elevator with 5 people who were not wearing masks. Disappointing.

I have stayed here several times - and I’m willing to overlook the need for room updates because the common areas are relaxing and the location is great. But this past trip was a case study in poor customer service. The front desk staff who checked me in was surly/rude. They made a mistake on my reservation and indicated that I was “lucky” that they could honor the two night reservation I had made. They made multiple billing errors that required effort on my part to correct. When asked to speak to someone, they transferred me to a line that wasn’t set up to take messages (this happened twice). No one called or emailed me although I repeatedly requested them to do so. Plans to host a workshop there are now cancelled. Poor customer service is a management issue. Would love to see this gem of a location under new management and updated.

The location of these accommodations was surprisingly lovely being surrounded by art, architecture and the university. It was a pleasant distraction from our intended business in Cleveland. The room was adequate, clean and relatively quiet, though a few less decorative pillows and bolsters would be more hygienic as their storage while using the bed was problematic given scant chairs. However, upon returning home I noted, in addition to the room rate, an additional charge on $10.80 on my credit card. Curious, I tried to reflect ‘what could be worth $10.80 that I may have used inadvertently?’ The only thing I could deduce was the use of two bottles of water provided next to the “free” coffee(?), typically provided in hotels/ motels now. I do not use tap water to make my coffee in accommodations other than my home. My suggestion to future patrons is check with the front desk before touching anything you didn’t bring for your stay!!

Dear 02120bham, Thank you for taking the time to share your comments about your recent stay with us. I am so pleased that you found the location to be perfect for your visit. The $10.80 is a parking charge. If you did not have a vehicle with you, please contact me directly to have the parking charge removed from your credit card. I look forward to an opportunity to welcome you back the next time you are in the area. Sincerely, Laura Brdar lbrdar@gliddenhouse.com
