I scoured ALL Cleveland area hotel websites and reviews for affordability, location, amenities, value, comfort, and ambience…landed on Glidden House over and again. It’s a charming place with the public spaces in the historic home itself and most of the guest rooms in a more modern 3-story connected addition. Self-parking is an unbelievably low of just $12 per night! We’ve stayed in many “resort” hotels, and in my opinion a room is just a room - must have comfy beds, nice TV, & a spotless bathroom. The beds at Glidden House are super comfy with quality sheets, perfect weight blanket & light topper, and plenty of puffy pillows. Water pressure in 3rd floor bath seemed a tad weak, but shower and toilet worked fine. I’d like to see nicer and larger towels, but toiletries were great. When guests stay more than two nights, I’d also like a towel exchange as a standard offering, but extras are available upon request. The BEST part of Glidden is the people, public areas, location, and breakfast! Super friendly folks (we especially enjoyed concierge James), the property is on the edge of Case Western campus with lots of trees, shrubs, and flowers, and the grounds feels like an extension of a historic neighborhood. The cozy counter-type bar is hosted each evening and a great spot for a drink and quiet conversation indoors or on the lovely garden patio right outside. The artwork, woodwork, and fixtures have interest and historic charm. The breakfast is wonderful! Full array and daily variety of juices, coffee/tea, pastries, eggs, meats, hot cereal, and more with lovely china and flatware to enjoy in the study or sunroom. Table signs invite non-guests to enjoy the meal for a very small charge plus tax and gratuity which is less than breakfast at any chain breakfast place. Little Italy is about a half-mile walk down the same street, and we also enjoyed a free Wednesday summer lawn concert at Wade Oval about 1/4 mile the other direction. Considered part of Uptown, the hotel itself is within 20 minutes of every part of Cleveland we visited - airport, Edgewater Park on Lake Erie, downtown, and the Christmas Story House. Highly recommended as BEST OVERALL!…
