First time I have stayed at a backpackers place, and was a litle hesitant at first. Let me start by saying it was super clean, staff were very friendly and helpful, and it was really good value for money. We had our own room which was nice. It wasn't a noisy party backpacking place, most people were there to enjoy... More

On the Wallaby was my favorite place I stayed in Australia. It feels so small and cozy, with a fireplace and people eager to be friendly and play games. It's the best way to see Yungabarra, the Atherton Highlands, and authentic Aussie life off the tourist track. I recommend staying more than one night. This allows you to see the... More

Quiet, clean and lovely people. Highly recommended. The Tablelands are amazing and this hostel is part of that amazingness. It is near a liquor and a conveniece store. The dogs are their best assest, especially Chief.

Fantastic eco hostel that is a cut above the rest. I've stayed twice now, the first time I did the Tablelands day tour (Cathedral Fig, Lake Eacham, Millaa Millaa Falls, Lake Hypipamee & Crater with Loz) and liked the place and the people so much I came back and stayed again a year later when I moved to Cairns. The... More

Thanks so much for your review...We are really glad you like not only the beautiful scenery and sites of the Tablelands but also the town and friendly people.. Coming from a city I too felt a little strange initially about the no-locks however soon discovered what a safe little town it is and found that not having to lock everything... More

Paul, Maree, Trace, Darius and the whole crew at On the Wallaby are so wonderful. They really do make On the Wallaby a 'home for those who roam'. This is great place to explore the Tablelands from. They can set up excursions for you. I've been here a couple of time now, and each time they host one of our... More

Absolutely loved our stay here. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. MAREE was so welcoming and capable, nothing was a problem. They cook great food and keep the place so clean and tidy that it's not your average backpackers stay. On the Wallaby would suit anyone wishing to stay in Yungaburra. Location is great to wander town... More

Photos don't do this place justice.. Its eclectic, relaxing and you have no choice but to feel relaxed here as soon as you walk in the door, you speak to your fellow travelers and staff and for once put down that nasty phone! . make sure you do the night canoeing :) It is awesome!
