Set in the heart of the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, the Daintree Ecolodge combines nature, nurture and culture in a pure rainforest environment. Believed to be over 180 million years old, and the oldest tropical lowland rainforest on Earth, the Daintree Rainforest is a rare and precious botanical treasure. Nestled amongst the foliage, the Daintree Ecolodge showcases 15 eco-friendly bayans (treehouses) immersed in the breathtaking rainforest canopy. Rise to the sound of the birds in the rainforest above, breathe-in the fresh tropical air and discover the lodge's private onsite waterfall on a leisurely stroll through the enchanting rainforest. The Daintree Ecolodge provides the perfect base to explore the treasures of the Daintree region; the only place in the world where two UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites meet (the Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef)! The Daintree Ecolodge is located 110 kilometres north of Cairns (90 minutes) and 45 kilometres north of Port Douglas (40 minutes) via sealed roads.

We stayed in a rainforest Bayan. There are 3 Bayans with a bath and No 16 offers the most privacy. No 14 & 15 are close to a walkway so if you're bathing then you will need to close the blinds for privacy. The rainforest Bayans have a stream flowing past so it creates a lovely sound at night. The rooms have aircon which was great as it was so hot there and no wifi or tv in the rooms but spotted wifi is available at the restaurant. All the units are enclosed by mosquito mesh as there are alot of mossies! We spent 4 nights there but I think 1-3 max will be sufficient. The resort is immediately off the main road and you can see cars drive past when sitting at the restaurant but it is so nicely situated that you feel like you are in the middle of a forest. You eat to the amazing frog calls from the little pond and there was always something interesting to see of a nature kind whilst eating our food. The restaurant food was always excellent and the staff so friendly and approachable. There are no hikes close to the lodge so you will have to travel to various places but we loved doing the Mossman Gorge hike which is an easy 20 minute drive. A crocodile river cruise is also highly recommended. Port Douglas was a nice day visit and all along the coast up to Cape Tribulation there were places where you could stop and do hikes. It was strange not being able to swim in the sea and we were wary walking on the beach with all the warning signs for stingers and crocodiles. A very good visit though and highly recommend.

Hi Althea2016, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your stay, the rainforest is such an incredible place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city for a couple of days. It is lovely to hear you were able to make the most of the region and explore some iconic places like Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation, we hope the time you spent at the lodge was rejuvenating. The bathtub in our Rainforest Bayans is always a highlight for guests who wish to soak up the sights and sounds of the jungle. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

Absolutely stunning location and never to be forgotten experience = perfect for those who want an intimate setting with some of the best - if not the best - food in the area. Only 14 lodges, you feel immersed in the gorgeous rainforest. Staff are accomodating, friendly informative and make you feel very very welcome. Would go back in a heartbeat, They recommended the best bird/wildlife cruise we have ever been on. Dont miss this place if you want a piece of heaven in the daintree.

We recently stayed two nights at the Daintree ecolodge. Our Bayan (tree house) was amazing nestled into the rainforest tree tops. It was very spacious, comfortable, quiet and clean. The front desk is managed by a very accommodating humorous young gentleman. In fact all the staff were lovely and helpful even arranging for us to be dropped off and picked up from the Daintree village so we could go on the evening two hour nature cruise (which we loved) . We really enjoyed the breakfasts and the location of the restaurant overlooking the lagoon filled with all sorts of wildlife. The meal at night was amazing even accomodating my vegetarian husband.
If you want rest and relaxation and to be surrounded by nature this is the place to go. Thankyou everyone we really enjoyed our stay. Sherolyn and willy vandenbrink

Hi Sherolyn and Willy, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review. We are incredibly fortunate to have our bayans (treehouses) immersed within the incredibly ancient 180-million-year-old Daintree Rainforest which is an incredible location to unwind, connect with nature and unplug from the outside world. The staff at lodge take pride in providing exceptional service to look after our guests so it's wonderful to hear you point that out. Our menu at Julaymba Restaurant is crafted using only fresh, homegrown and locally sourced, seasonal and sustainable produce and the culinary team are extremely passionate about curating delicious meals for each of our guests of all dietary requirements. We hope to welcome you back soon.

Daintree ecolodge definitely needs a whole new structure starting from their front end team to the housekeeping staff, they need consistency and people with experience …

So first off the room wasn’t so clean when we checked in, bathroom especially ! Secondly we had to change rooms the next day which we knew but the reception she told us one room needs to be vacated by 10 am so we did that and then she’s like no the other room needs to be vacated ! Whole differnt level of inefficiency ! Anywyas so we vacated by 10 but we only got the new room by 130 and then we just decided to leave early and head off to cairns cause we were quite disappointed with the service and staff both

Food was great but we asked them at 150pm if chef can make something for the kids but he said it’s almost 2 he can’t make anything out of the menu

Basically no customer service , it was literally like they’re making no effort whatsoever for anything in our stay !

Oh well property is VERY AVG ! We did the crocodile sunset river cruise was ok and we did the atv ride that was fanstastic !

They definitely need an overall asap and experienced trained staff ! For the price we paid for 2 rooms , nothing was upto the mark

I was disappointed with the Daintree Ecolodge. It was advertised as a 4 1/2 star lodge, however, the accommodation was not that great. The room was quite standard with no TV or phone and only one bedside lamp. The air conditioning did not heat, so it was quite cold in our room. This would have been nice seeing that out of the 4 days that we stayed, it rained for three of them.

The food was presentable, but once again because breakfast was included, you had a morning breakfast menu where you could pick ONE of granola with fruit and yoghurt, OR pancakes, OR scrambled or poached eggs, OR Avocado and tomato on rye, OR fried eggs, OR toast with jam and butter. Likewise with the drinks. You would think that you would be able to have cereal PLUS one other choice.

For lunch, if you didn't have your own transport, you had a choice of a $125 or $135 picnic basket and for dinner the menu was the same for the whole 4 nights. Each night we chose a different meat however, it didn't come with veges. So a plate to share of veges was another $10 for potatoes and another $10 for seasonal greens, (which happened to be brussel sprouts every night) So if you haven't got a car to go elsewhere for lunch and dinner, factor in another at least $250 a day for food.

There were two very positive points to mention of our stay at the Daintree Ecolodge. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the bed was very comfortable.

Stayed at the ecolodge for 7 nights, Staff were very friendly and food was very nice. Overpriced for what it was though, certainly wouldn't pay $400 - $550 / night for it. Pool area wasn't very appealing, dinner menu was limited which made it hard for 7 nights. A room safe and complimentary bottled water would be a nice touch and a slightly higher level of service based on the price. No refund if having to cancel due to Covid closer to your stay. Massage was very good and over all a good stay, but 2-3 nights would have been enough.

We stayed for 3 nights booking the “culturally curious” package.

I debated rating the facility 2 of 3 stars but settled on 2 given the high cost.

As others have said, the rainforest setting is beautiful and peaceful. The gourmet restaurant looks over a picturesque frog bog.

Why the low rating?

While the restaurant quality was wonderful, the menu was understandably limited given the small facility. However, it remained unchanged for 3 days. If you are vegetarian, you will be eating ravioli for 3 nights in a row. There are no other nearby restaurants.

The pool was small and unheated. It was not useable with frigid temperatures. Given the price, the facility should have a nice pool, with drinks available.

Although there was a yoga mat in the room, again for the price and a facility that prides itself on promoting health, there should have been a gym.

The bar/lounge area had very slow wifi but none in the rooms. Nowadays, wifi should be considered a ‘utility’ and available throughout. We had to use the cell service incurring charges on our foreign calling plan.

The cabin was nice and set with a view of the rainforest. The furnishings were functional but basic - definitely inconsistent with the luxury price paid. It was well equipped with nice shampoo, etc as well as a selection of teas and coffee. However, the room needed a refresh. For example, the bathroom mirror was rusting.

The hotel selected premium vendors for our two excursion and our lunch hamper contained a delicious selection of food.

Having said that the “A Walk Through Time’ rainforest walk on the grounds of the Daintree Ecolodge” that was included in our package was unavailable as the staff member who delivers the tour does not work weekends.

Don’t get us wrong, we had a great stay, but the facility does not live up to its luxury price point.

Dear Scarlet, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and share your feedback with us. The location of the lodge is what attracts our guests from all over the globe as they have the opportunity to unplug from the world and fully immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the 180-million-year-old Daintree Rainforest, so, while we don’t have wifi in the banyans (treehouses) we do provide wifi in the main lodge for guests’ convenience. Your feedback helps us identify areas for improvement and we're committed to addressing these issues to enhance our services. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Best regards,

The small hotel has only a few rooms, which are usually located "in the trees". The rooms are sufficiently large, have a nice bathroom and a small "balcony". All windows are protected against winged intruders with fine wire. The windows can therefore be left open unless the existing air conditioning is needed. The best way to prevent ants is to not bring food into the room.
Breakfast and dinner are served in the restaurant. The selection is good, the quality of the food is high. The wine selection, on the other hand, is a bit modest.
All employees are very friendly and helpful, even if not all of them are experts.
A car is required for all activities, there is little you can do directly at the hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay here and wish we had more time. The location is great- right off the road but within the rainforest so you get all the sights and sounds around you. The room we stayed in was large, clean and comfortable with its own enclosed balcony to sit and relax. The staff- especially Rob and his wife (I’m sorry I forgot her name!) - were so warm and welcoming and went out of their way to make our experience special and answer our questions. We highly recommend eating at the restaurant on site since the menu changes daily and is inspired by native Australian ingredients.

If you are looking for Wi-Fi and tv in your room don’t book here, do your research first.
The whole idea is to get away from the fast pace of todays world and enjoy your natural surroundings.
The staff were outstanding, the food exquisite especially the smoked focaccia and the ambience was relaxing and chilled, listening to the frog chorus each night.
Loved the fact that you could leave all your windows open all night to hear the sounds of nature without fear of an invasion of mosquitoes and other pests.
The walk to the waterfall was well worth the climb and photo opportunity.
Perfect space on the balcony for early morning pilates and yoga whilst enjoying the dawn chorus of bird songs.
We didn’t want to leave, thank you.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, the delicious food, and the relaxing atmosphere. We’re also happy to hear you loved the walk to the waterfall and the natural sounds that make the experience so special. Just a note, we now have Wi-Fi in the rooms, but we still encourage guests to disconnect and immerse themselves in the serenity of nature during their stay. We truly appreciate your kind words and are grateful you chose to spend your time with us. We hope to welcome you back for another peaceful retreat.

Hi, is there anywhere to park our caravan whilst staying at the lodge.

There is off road parking for vehicles but I suspect for caravans you would have to park off-road somewhere. Would suggest contacting the lodge to see if they can recommend something.

Stairs could be an issue if you have a disability, also the driveway is fairly steep. I would contact reception to discuss this as they have several rooms that have easy access to the bar and dining area. From what we saw all rooms are quite modern. I hope this helps.
