I'd been planning to come to mungumby lodge for quite a while. I was wanting to drive the Bloomfield track from cape tribulation and needed a place to stay at the other end. We also had a pooch. Hamish and Isabella couldn't have been more friendly and inviting upon our arrival. The estate is hidden in thick rainforest and is... More

We stayed two nights on a long road trip out of Cairns up to Cooktown then down Bloomfield Tract and Daintree to Mossman. The setting is wonderful- just on the edge of the rainforest below Cooktown, backing up against some beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls. Very dramatic & pristine. We arrived as the sun was setting, having driven 5 hrs,... More

With some trepidation we booked a week at Mungumby - worried that most others seemed to stay for only a few days. However, this was one of our best vacations. The open air dining room and the early morning bird chorus were features. We were fortunate to be there right when the many mango trees had ripe fruit. We took... More

We spent two nights at Mungumby as our base for visiting Cooktown. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The property and its location are beautiful, with very well marked out walking tracks. I was disappointed with the overall standard of the cabin, which was quite small, very dark and no tea/coffee making facilities. For us waking up to the... More

We (2 adults and 2 kids 7 and 14) spent one night at Mugumby on our way to Cooktown from cape tribulation, The place is magic and Hamisch is an excellent host eager to share his amazing knowledge of the flora, fauna, culture and history of the country. The walk from the lodge to the falls will remain in our... More

We (family, kids aged 7 and 9) stayed two days (three nights) at Mungumby to bridge a rainy spell during our camping vacations. The lodge is relatively small (maximum of 32 guests if I remember correctly) and run by the owner family, which gives it a very personal touch. Indeed, we had a perfectly personalized service including tailored food for... More

On the way back from Cooktown at a small junction we saw a signpost of this beautiful lodge and we decided to find out if it is as special as the signpost suggests.. Surely enough at the end of the track leading to a former mine we found this fantastic lodge nestled in amazing surroundings! Hamisch and Isabella are excellent... More

Wonderful gardens, lovely and sometimes challenging walks, loads of birds and the best food ever! We had a beautifully appointed cabin and the owner, Hamish, made sure everything was perfect. We stayed here five nights and although initially we thought it might be too long, it certainly wasn't. There was also a lovely pool to cool off in surrounded by... More

We only found this place on the internet and as we drove up the road were unsure what it would be like, and we'd booked for 4 nights. However, it really is a special place. The location is awesome, and the isolation great (no hardship to only check emails once a day on a trip to Cooktown). The cabins are... More

This place is unique, we visited in the monsoon season and had an amazing experience with the wild life and the environment. Hamish the chatty host, is a font of knowledge about the area and the wildlife. He is also the chef and we had some great meals. He makes his own bread and uses local produce in his menu.... More
