Plenty of atmosphere, splendid bird life, excellent host (Hamish on his own during our visit) and cuisine, and several interesting walks. Cabins a little basic but made up for by everything else and by comfortable public area. Own transport needed, and necessary to book car in advance as there only seemed to be 2 limited options in Cooktown. The coastal...

After having done the Bloomfield track we ended up in the Mungumby Lodge. Some kms below Cooktown. Lovely place with a nice gardens and basic but beautiful rooms. But not only the place was nice also the food was beautiful both literally and figuratively. Not cheap, but definitely worth the money. Made by a Finnish cook and served by his...

Wonderful time at Mungumby. A complete escape from the tech world...no wifi, mobile, tv or radio...bliss. Would suggest that guests either have their own vehicle or have a driver on call as it is about 20 mins from Cooktown and a taxi will cast $100+. Excellent service from Hamish and the team...food is excellent. Super walk up to the falls,...

I'd been planning to come to mungumby lodge for quite a while. I was wanting to drive the Bloomfield track from cape tribulation and needed a place to stay at the other end. We also had a pooch. Hamish and Isabella couldn't have been more friendly and inviting upon our arrival. The estate is hidden in thick rainforest and is...

We stayed two nights on a long road trip out of Cairns up to Cooktown then down Bloomfield Tract and Daintree to Mossman. The setting is wonderful- just on the edge of the rainforest below Cooktown, backing up against some beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls. Very dramatic & pristine. We arrived as the sun was setting, having driven 5 hrs,...

With some trepidation we booked a week at Mungumby - worried that most others seemed to stay for only a few days. However, this was one of our best vacations. The open air dining room and the early morning bird chorus were features. We were fortunate to be there right when the many mango trees had ripe fruit. We took...

We spent two nights at Mungumby as our base for visiting Cooktown. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The property and its location are beautiful, with very well marked out walking tracks. I was disappointed with the overall standard of the cabin, which was quite small, very dark and no tea/coffee making facilities. For us waking up to the...

We (2 adults and 2 kids 7 and 14) spent one night at Mugumby on our way to Cooktown from cape tribulation, The place is magic and Hamisch is an excellent host eager to share his amazing knowledge of the flora, fauna, culture and history of the country. The walk from the lodge to the falls will remain in our...
