We were looking for some quite time to regenerate after a hectic work schedule and couldn't have chosen better. We stayed in the 'Treetops' lodge and it was just so quiet and peaceful, we didn't feel the need to have to go out anywhere (although we did a couple of times just to explore some of the little back roads around the Tablelands). My daughter and I did some bushwalks. Even walking back down the 1km-or-so-long driveway to the road (dirt road no cars in sight) was a pleasure, where we observed rosellas, pardalotes, wallabies and other wildlife. Just sitting on the verandah with a glass of wine watching the weather across the northern plains was the medicine we needed, and did so while sitting in the spa a couple of times. Rosemary and Maurie were very friendly and helpful, and the place we stayed in was in great condition, clean and with many nice little touches. A great discovery...we will be back for another rejuvenating break!

Room Tip: 'Treetops' was great, didn't see inside the others as they're all different.

Husband thought he had booked a place in the rainforest but the rural scenery was amazing anyways. We arrived around 4pm and were welcomed by the lovely new owners. The Moonlight cabin was very cosy and perfect for two. I found the cabin to be clean and it smelt lovely. The food provided was just the right amount for two if not more. I loved the tim tams, wine and other sweet touches. I do wish we had freshly baked bread instead of store bought. We used the hot tub a lot and enjoyed being surrounded by the trees. The massage was lovely however it would've been even better if we were massaged at the same time. The robes were a comfy touch and the bed was comfy. The tv was a bit far from the bed and the couch wasn't comfortable (sofa bed) but we didn't use that area anyways. Just take your clothes, toiletries and they'll have the rest. I loved the Kookaburra tiled shower wall and found the showered shared toilet room to be very spacious. I didn't like the toilet paper but it's understandable considering the sensitive plumbing. I felt the towels lacked softener but it's really up to the individual and the water pressure was a bit slow but not a problem. I also like the little sewing kits and nail file added as I ended up needing them. The views from every angle were amazing, we wished we had taken shoes as the place has walking tracks and WII history spots to explore. We didn't see other guest during our stay and we found our room to be very private out the back thanks to the trees. The locals were friendly and helpful. Places we visited: Coffee works - Loved it! Can pay to have unlimited chocolates and booze while there or can just sit in as a normal customer on the other side of the store. Mt uncles distillery - Must visit if you enjoy your spirits. Lovely service and great tasting rum and whisky. Testings get you pretty tips starting from $5 for 1, $10 for 4, $15 for 6 and $25 for 10. Note if you are driving the $10 for 4 is around 2 standard drinks. De Brueys Boutique Wines - Very quiet on a Sunday. The caretaker was nice but was also new and didn't have much info on the place as the owner lives overseas and has recently purchased the place. We found the place to be very dry and run down. I guess once the new changes are made that the reviews will change. Atherton antiques - Lovely shop just didn't find what we were looking for. There is another antique store on the way to Yungaburra called “old stuff” and it opens at 10, we didn't get to visit this store but heard it's interesting. Yungaburra - We had breakfast at a lovely cafe across from the main pub. Try the ham, tomato and onion omelette. Lovely town, must check it out. Platypus viewing - We enjoyed our search for a Platypus after brekky. As you leave (heading back to Atherton) Yungaburra you'll see the Platypus viewing platform on the left just before the bridge. Thanks to the happiest couple for our lovely stay 😀.

We stayed here 10 years ago and were excited to be going back but found a lot of the extras that made it so special last time missing. There is no bacon or sausages included in the breakfast pack, no more fresh baked bread or homemade preserves, probably wouldn't go back considering the price

what an absolutely amazing space to relax and just unwind in pure serenity. The owners Maurie and Rosemary do not leave anything out in accomodating to you and to offer you the best experience ever. the peace and quiet with the solitude of complete privacy in a fully contained cabin was just what we needed to escape reality for a few days. will most certainly be back for another relaxing time in pure heaven :)

We stayed 3 nights in the Moonlight cabin at Allawah Retreat and it was so relaxing and quiet! The new owners, Rosemary and Maurie, were so welcoming and nothing was too much. In fact, there was little we had to ask for as they'd thought of everything already! The supplies for breakfast were plentiful and the little extras like fresh fruit, a bottle of wine and our favourite chocolates (yum!) were a lovely surprise. The view over the valley was stunning with the colours changing during the day as the sun moved overhead. Sunset saw budgerigars enjoying a wash in the bird bath below us. The huge spa on the deck was warm and soothing. It got a lot of use! And the wood-burning fireplace added another romantic touch to our long weekend. It kept us toasty warm during the chilly Tablelands nights - especially after we'd been out on the deck gazing at the the millions of stars on display, a view that took our breaths away. There was plenty of wood already cut ready for our use. The king size bed was so comfortable - we haven't slept that deeply for a long time. We're locals from Cairns so we'll definitely be regular visitors to Allawah when we want to swap the beach for the quiet bush. (Although the windfarm is around the other side of the hill, we couldn't hear a sound from it, even in the dead of night.)
