I'm not sure I'd honestly recommend this place to a friend! We stayed here last weekend for 2 nights and whilst the room was really nice, very large and very clean the staff and the food were just plain odd. The Manager (Peter) was really nice on the first night and then completely ignored us in the bar on the... More

We had a lovely stay at this friendly hotel. When we drove into the car park we thought it could be shabby but this is far from the case. The room had quality furnishings and bed linen and was spotless. All of the staff made us very welcome.

Cannot fault the superb interested and interesting staff who are always cheerful, helpful and willing to go that extra mile to make your stay an enjoyable one. Have stayed here on a number of occasions and keep coming back for more. Very good comfortable rooms, large portions of excellent food from a modern menu, good selection of alcohol. Special thank... Long time to wait for a train so called in here for lunch. Proper old fashioned pub with lots of original fittings. Good pub meal menu and beer. Had steak and ale pie which was hearty and as described. On the list for my next visit.

Arriving late in the evening and picking up the key from the bar left me thinking that I didn't need to return for a drink. The staff were friendly but the decor was way past being tired. Two flights of stairs didn't change this impression. The room however was very pleasant. Breakfast in the bar was ok but some of... More

Had a lovely stay with the wife here. Nice bedroom, the bathroom wasn't very big, but you're not living in the bathroom and this isn't the London Hilton, its a small town hotel, don't expect so much! We signed in at the bar and a very friendly young lady showed us to the room. We had an excellent meal in... More

My wife and I stayed at the Red Lion for Halloween night to visit Matlock Bath for the illuminations and firework display. We arrived at about 2.30 of the afternoon to find access to the car park blocked by the owners vehicle. Once inside the pub we were shown to our room by a very pleasant young girl who asked... More

We stayed at the Red Lion for 2 days. It was great to have a place to park, and the room was fine, although the bathroom was small. I hate en-suites anyway, there's no privacy. Went down to the bar for a drink & tried to get a Wi-Fi connection without success. A man came over and took my phone... More

We visited for a meal on a quiet Monday evening, but we received a lovely welcome, the staff were very friendly and the service was good. I had chilli which was excellent just the right amount of spices for me. Lovely cosy place to enjoy a meal.

Amazing 18th century coaching inn, well preserved and located perfectly for the start of our romantic escapade in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Staff was more then welcoming and accomodating, giving us tips for where to start our adventure next day. Special thanks go the owner, Peter, who cooked us a hearty and yummy full english breakfast, to Jan the housekeeper... More
