Great hotel and excellent service. We stayed here to attend a wedding. Even though our room was not ready on arrival, the manager gave us a room to change in, which was very kind. The room we were finally allocated was in an annexe of the hotel, across the road. The room was very small and the bathroom was so compact, there was not enough space between the shower and toilet. The mugs in the room were large, which was excellent as I love a large mug of tea. The only downside was the size of the room and the fact they don’t offer breakfast on a Monday, so as it was a bank holiday, there was nowhere else to have breakfast, which was very disappointing.

Very avarage food, the starter was good, my burger was very avarage and the lemon curd cheese cake was over priced for what seamed to be a plain cheese cake with a swirl of lemon curd on the plate. The high chairs were not very comfortable and cumbersome. I also left with a cold back due to the draft coming across the bar from the pub side.

Called in evening time with friends for food. It was a cold and wet evening. We walked into the bar and was greeted with strong smell of wet dogs! We tried to find a seat and to get some warmth from the fire but we couldnt get anywhere near due to dogs everywhere sprawled out by the fire. Your poor staff were trying to walk amongst these dogs whilst carrying heavy plates of food. Not very health and safety eh? Whilst there, another person walked in with 2 dogs. Disgraceful! The whole place stank so it was a good decision to decide not to eat there. Dog walkers - if you enjoy walking outdoors then why not enjoy your drink outside in the courtyard under the umbrellas? Let the drinkers and diners enjoy the warmth and nice aroma in a pub instead of awful wet dogs. Once one started yapping they all did! Awful. Not becoming of Harpurs. Maybe restrict it to a max of 2 dogs?

Stayed a couple of times now and it’s really nice. All of he rooms are very well finished and the beds comfortable. First floor have dodgy electric showers, but they still work well. Second a more spacious, I have to say, it’s a super welcoming place with a good sleep. The restaurant is very nice. I’ve enjoyed the food and service. There’s nothing soulless about this place. People care and it feels good. I only wish they’d do breakfast Monday to Wednesday. It’d top it off. Maybe when we get back to normal after covid there’s some persuasion?

It's my first time visiting Harper's, me and my family have always been told how lovely it is and all the recommendations were spot on. We went for a Champagne Breakfast for the 4 of us. 2 Vegetarians and 2 meat eaters. The menu was full of options and to have 3 courses and a drink I was honestly stuffed after the 1st!! You can choose from Champagne, Prosecco or Juice but we asked for Tea and Coffee which was no problem at all. The first course we had Pancakes and one person had the Granola and they were fantastic!! I thought the Syrup, Berries and Yoghurt would be in small pots and even the pancakes would be small but they were 3 medium pancakes with all the toppings on top.... Syrup, berries and yoghurt?! Strange...?! Not at all, we were all so surprised at how well they all complimented each other and I'm going to try and copy it myself at home!! We all said they were the best pancakes we have ever had. Unfortunately this make me personally really full before my main meal! I wasn't prepared for the big portions so you really get the best out of your money! The main we asked for Vegan breakfasts but swapped some items out which was no problem at all, best vegan sausages we have ever had. The Big Meaty Breakfasts were really enjoyed as well. The toast was put in the middle which was really awesome as I could have my partners toast without it touching the meat items. For dessert it was Crossaint and Brownie, I asked for mine to go away which was also no problem! It was put in a pizza box which came in handy when the rest of the family decided to take theirs home too. The only downside was that it said Crossaint and Brownie but only 2 out of 4 of us got brownie portions but never mind. I'm now writing this after having our desserts warmed up at home and we really enjoyed the experience at Harpur's. The lady serving us (sorry didn't catch her name!) Was really welcoming. The toilets there were also very clean and the surroundings inside and outside were very good too, with their own car park you couldn't really ask for anymore!

First time here with my wife for what was meant to be a romantic dinner . Arrived lovely atmosphere abs decor however we’re we’re seated directly by the draughtiest open door that blew and helped our food get colder that it was when served . Ordered from a very kind and helpful waitress 💯 genuine and very good at her job no issues there . 1x belly pork 💯 fantastic as a starter main was rump steak fries peppercorn sauce with side onion rings . Onion rings awful just awful sliver of onion rest oily unflavoured batter just awful ,cold abs felt really not great on arriving home . Steak arrived cold sent it politely back waitress suggested a new one that I declined polity as no need , just warm it please and it will be fine I said . It Arrived back few min later same as before cold ? Peppercorn sauce was water gravy and whatever to make peppercorn sauce watery and just not good. Fries pretty great no issues Cappuccino x2 lovely very nice . Wife had burger and fries looked great bacon needed doing bit more but as a whole not bad at all . Bill came no issue paying at all the £58.00 but it would have been polite on managements behalf to have had raised an eye brow . Result : sadly let down /disappointed won’t be back .

I stayed on a Friday night. Dont be fooled by the website pictures or blurb. This is not a boutique hotel but basically a town centre boozer full of noisy drinkers. My room was directly above the bar - you can hear every word spoken ( or more often shouted) Very loud music began at 9p.m. No chance to sleep before 11.

I had a very pleasant 2 night stay at Harpurs. I was lucky to have a room in their cottage Victoria Mews. The hotel is a very high standard of cleanliness, decoration and facilities. It had the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. The staff here are fantastic. I was going to arrive late on a Sunday evening after their restaurant was closed. So one of their staff Luke offered to go out and get me a take out ready for when I arrived. My room was really well decorated, it has a fantastic en-suite and plenty of room. They even have remote controlled blinds! If like me your normal class of hotel is a premier inn, then get a room here, it is so much nicer, cleaner, a higher standard and far more competitively priced. I ate at the restaurant on one night and can highly recommend their food. It is a ££ price, not budget but great quality. Their bar also serves a fantastic real ale.

Harpurs is in a bustling central location on this very classy, attractive Derbyshire town. The room was clean, breakfast was delicious, staff were polite. I particularly appreciated the man who gave me some foil to wrap my breakfast in so I could finish it later! (Felt a bit delicate after a wedding). I booked two rooms at £125 each so wasn’t expecting 5 star luxury but I did expect a little more for the price. The room was pretty compact with no space for proper bedside tables- just shelves on the wall. The large bathroom was a nice surprise but the saniflow system was noisy (and I could hear it being used in other rooms throughout the night) and there was an unpleasant sewage smell. The electric shower was either scalding or cold. One of the bedside lights didn’t work. The picture on the wall had a big paint drip down it. The heavy curtains made the room nice and dark but as there was no blind if you wanted privacy you had to be in the pitch dark - or otherwise expose yourself to the Main Street below and buildings opposite. The place seemed understaffed - check in was pretty brief and we struggled to get anyone to take payment for our breakfast. To check out we pretty much had to hunt down a member of staff and Chuck our keys at them as we were about to miss our taxi. The main thing I feel people should be aware of is the pre-authorisation charge. I used Booking.com and they stated that payment would be taken at the hotel, not before. Two days before my stay I noticed a holding payment of £250 on my bank account. I have stayed at places that do this before but have never been charged the full value of the rooms - usually just a deposit- and have always been warned. Harpurs sent me a message to warn me about the holding payment three days after processing it! They then took the actual £250 payment for the rooms separately, so at this point they have £500 of my money - this doesn’t seem justified to me. To make it worse there was an error meaning another £250 of my money was taken as a holding charge - at this point one night in their hotel is costing me £750! If I hadn’t just been paid I’d be into my overdraft. To be fair the hotel were incredibly swift at phoning me to apologise and rectify, but one week after my stay I’m still waiting for one of the holding payments to be reversed - bearing in mind I have paid my £250 bill in full as well! I would much rather have just paid the Bill up front and avoided the extra £500 being held on my account.
