Was on a hiking weekend in the Peak District and needed somewhere cheap to stay. First time I've stayed in a YHA but they're brilliant. Cheap, clean and very friendly. Enjoyed watching the Olympics in the lounge with a few beers in the evening. Had a great cooked breakfast in the morning and they made me a good packed lunch... More

My kids and I had been looking forward to staying in this YHA for a while, Sadly it was not the experience we wanted. As a whole, the grounds and premises are lovely, on arrival staff seemed friendly and the self catering kitchen is large, clean and well equipped. We booked direct with the hostel 2 weeks before our trip,... More

We had a twin ensuite room ( bunk Beds / with small shower toilet ). Everything you need for a hostel, excellent well equipped kitchen (large too ) , nice "stately" common rooms, good drying room for wet gear. Position is excellent for local walking which is good .

AMAZING weekend at this wonderful hostel. The weather helped, that's for sure, but the hostel has so many wonderful things going for it! The grounds are an amazing natural playground. There are also goats, chickens and pigs. Places to build dens and tree houses. Huge patio with seating. Bike shed and bike cleaning facility. Super large kitchen with great facilities,... More

Just came back from a glorious weekend at the Castletown YHA. Beautiful location, impressive building, really helpful staff, great atmosphere. We were made completely welcome from the moment we arrived and the youth hostel made the perfect setting for a weekend with a group of my oldest friends and there families.....25 of us in all. A spacious building and grounds... More

This is the second time I have stayed at this hostel, with a group friends to enjoy walking in the Peak District and enjoy a few beers. The hostel must be one of the most beautiful in the country for the quality of the building and it's setting. Just half a mile from the centre of the village and plenty... More

This was a party of nearly 20-24 comprising family and friends gathered together and hosted by my sister's husband to celebrate her 50th. And ALL were most impressed by the place. Myself coming from Pakistan, the thought that we (all above 40s with children in their near teens) would be staying in a youth hostel was already adventurous. But it... More

To begin with, one thing this place doesn't lack is charm. The building is really beautiful, the surrounding park is lovely and peaceful, with adorable lambs running around. You're also close to the village which has some nice pubs, and Castleton is a good location to start several walking treks in the Peak District. The only thing I found annoying... More
