Really difficult to rate our stay at the lion hotel. Dog friendly hotel which was great. The room was ok needs a little updating, hotel was clean breakfast was really nice and fresh. Our room was so hot and above the kitchen so smelt of cooked food - mostly fish the whole stay. However, the staff were so pleasant and... More

We had a great one night stay in the Lion. Good car park, friendly staff, hotel has recently been refurbished and all new and clean. Great bar especially the courtyard area outside.Full English breakfast included in the rate and 2 restaurants.

Visited for the first time today after a friend recommended it to us. It was sadly a disappointment. We had prebooked a table for 6 people plus 1 baby. We were stood waiting for 10 minutes in the bar before staff acknowledged us. Once seated we were sat ages before the waitress came over to take our order. I ordered... More

I used to stay here years ago on business and always found it fine for the money. However, first time I've stayed at weekend and in warm weather: pretty much unbearable due to lack of air conditioning and double glazing. This is compounded by: Location on high street; Next to all night garage; All night bar; Lack of security staff.... More

Fabulous refurbishment has breathed new life in to this place. Now its a welcoming venue to dine out or just call in for a drink. We called in at lunch time and the menu looked so tempting we stayed to eat and we were not disappointed. The service was good and the outside area, on a hot sunny day, was... More

I dont normally review on just one night, but felt I had to as this hotel was extremely busy but they kept a smile on their faces. There was quite a few of us staying here for one night as we came from all over to a 70th birthday (not held at the lion). Very busy at breakfast but still... More

On this occasion we visited for Sunday lunch. My Misses had the pie which was good, although in this situation mash should never be dressed with pesto. I took the unusual choice of the chefs special Pizza which was great, fresh, great base and lived up to its spicy billing. The menu is eclectic and we've sampled most of it... More

Stayed 2 nights here for the food festival. Our room was adequate - situated at the back of the hotel overlooking the courtyard. A few downsides to the room - the sink was cracked and the shower was covered in black mould but only a minor let down! Breakfast was served at really convenient times so even if you want... More

We got a good deal at this hotel and stayed two nights. It is under new ownership and they are planning refurbishment. On our first night we had a room overlooking a 24 hour petrol station and the double glazing had been removed. Sleep was difficult to say the least. The shower was also broken and the toilet seat. The... More

Having dined regularly Fri & Sat evenings and been very pleased with the whole experience, 6 of us decided to have Sunday lunch. Firstly, we were all very disappointed with the menu as you have a choice of Sunday roast or pizza. Secondly, the service was very poor and none of the usual efficient staff seemed to be working. 4... More
