Arrived Thursday afternoon around 3:30 pm to find only the owner and one of the chefs in the pool room and Angela behind the bar. She gave us the key for the Hawes water Suite which was lovely. Very spacious although a bit chilly due to the high ceiling and stone outside wall features. Disappointed to find our kingsize bed... More

2nd time there since present owners took charge of what was a great venue for food. 1st time there had gammon swimming in fat, disgusting peas and chips. Last night, all 8 of us had to return our meals. I had mash drowned in what looked like dish water, over cooked veg., lamb that was flavourless and more fat than... More

We asked for availability during the floods this weekend, the hotel was full but they kindly let us stay in our campervan in their car park for no charge. We enjoyed a meal and I would recommend the lasagne.

We went for an overnight stay. Unfortunately we stayed the night of the atrocious weather (5/12/15) but despite this we had a lovely time and would love to visit again so we can experience the beautiful countryside. The hotel staff need commending for their hospitality as they experienced some challenges but saw it all through, a great team and well... More

We stayed as a couple at the Greyhound on a good 3 night deal a couple of weeks ago. The room had the character you would expect from an Inn as old as this, with a lovely big bed which is probably the most comfortable we have ever slept in and we weren't disturbed at all by noise from either... We had a lovely 2 night break even though we had a lot of snow, the staff are very friendly, meals are good and bedrooms are comfy. The hotel which is in shap is a good base place to stay for carlisle, kendal is not far away and good for walkers,we would stay there again.

Enjoyed a couple of nights staying at the Greyhound. Despite dreadful weather and being full of cold, we still enjoyed the break, made more enjoyable by a roaring log burner and friendly staff. A great bonus that they allow well behaved dogs to stay at no extra cost. Just be aware that as a past coaching inn, the Greyhound is... More

What a wonderful spacious inn. Stayed here on our C2C walk and it was great. Our room was a little dated but given the age of the inn a certain quirkiness is to be expected and we had a comfortable night. Our food that we ate in the bar rather than the restaurant was lovely and the staff were all... More
