Margaret was so friendly and welcoming, even though a thoughtless German couple with a confirmed booking had decided to stay elsewhere without letting her know, resulting in calls to mountain rescue was causing some distress. Breakfast was great (particularly the porridge) and an interesting mix of other guests made this an enjoyable stay on our C2C walk.

After one of the longest days on the Coast to Coast (partially our fault, as we managed to get lost for an hour and a half), we arrived dirty and exhausted and were greeted by the affable Margaret, who invited us into her living room for a delicious cream tea complete with tasty scones and cakes (which we devoured with... I stayed here one night on my recent coast to coast walk. The accommodation is a little tired and aged. Electric sockets were difficult to access to charge my stuff. However I would still give this a positive recommendation due to the host who looked after a very wet and tired person after the longest, toughest day of the whole... More

Margaret and her husband Les are brilliant hosts. We only stayed for one night but it was one of the best stays on the C2C. The rooms are immaculately clean and the beds are supremely comfortable. There is a main train line behind the house but it didn't disturb me once. I think Margaret was disappointed that I only had... More

One of the nicest bnb's I've stayed in, Margaret is a fantastic hostess, there's a lovely sense of warmth, caring and eye to detail in this house and breakfast is amazing like coming to your Nana's xx

Margaret is a really wonderful hostess and couldn't have done more to make us welcome and comfortable after a long days walk on the coast to coast. As mentioned in previous reviews, we were given tea and fresh scones, chocolate cake and 'nutty fluff' as she called it on arrival. The bed was super comfy (yes, we also had the... More

After a 16 mile walk from Patterdale on the Coast to Coast walk, dripping wet after some typical Fells weather, arriving at Brookfield House was most welcome. Margaret relieved us of our sopping wet walking clothes (ensuring all was dry for the next day) and produced a lovely afternoon tea with scones and a "suspicion" of chocolate cake, which was... 4 years since visited last and wondered if the superb host Margeret would still be there and she was - as active and helpful as ever. I don't like Shap much and Brookfield is right at the end of the village - the furthest distance for coast to coasters. However you do save time on the next leg. You get... More

A warm welcome with tea and cakes. We were a little later arriving than expected and had to rush to get out again for our evening meal which disrupted Margaret's schedule. Lovely breakfast and a large pack up!

Wow! After a tough day on the C2C from Patterdale-Shap and the extra distance to reach the B&B what a warm welcome. After being shown our room we went back down to the lounge for a huge pot of tea and fresh cakes. Our breakfast and packed lunch requirements were taken by Margaret the owner, who repeatedly asked if we... More
