Thorns Hall is one of the historic houses used by HF Holidays as a base for a walking holiday. It is superb in every respect. My room, in an annexe, was spacious and very comfortable with an excellent en suite. The main building has delightful lounges, a bar, a discovery room housing numerous maps and walking guides which can be... More

Great holiday at Thorns Hall, organised by HF Holidays. Excellent walking leaders with a choice of three walks each day - easy, medium and hard. Food and company excellent - full board with a wide choice of packed lunches. All inclusive apart from evening drinks at the bar, ie, accommodation, activities and transport to the walks as required and evening... More

One of the best HF houses. Great walking. Excellent food and service. The manager, David, could not have done any more to make our stay enjoyable. The food was a highlight of our holiday. The rooms seem to have been refurbished recently to a very high standard.

Lovely location - lovely room - friendly staff. Clearly, if your not a walker you do feel a little out of place. Communal dining is not for me. I'm not a morning person and didn't like making small talk with strangers over breakfast. Everyone talks about walking !! Short walk to the village . Super location and David the manager... More

An ancient building, with a warren of corridors, many of the rooms outside the main building across the cobbled yard. Excellent, fresh food served in the beamed dining room at the top of the house. The freshest, most efficiently served breakfast I have experienced anywhere - no sooner was it ordered than it arrived! The manager's manner took a little... More

An enjoyable weekend in Sedbergh which is a beautiful part of the UK for walking. Saw quite a few rooms which were excellent. Mine was a single room in the annexe, very small but totally adequate and very clean. Meals were of a good standard but ruined as they were served cold (breakfast) or luke warm (evening meal). Nice lounge... More

What a fantastic place to go, the hotel itself was great. Our room was brilliant, I think that the room we had must have recently been re-furbished. The bathroom was like new, no lime scale anywhere, the shower was the same, very clean and a pleasure to use. The location couldn't be better, a couple of minutes walk from the... More

This is part of HF holidays for people, largely elderly and middle-aged, who go on walking tours, but you can book for bed and breakfast. It's an interesting building on the edge of Sedbergh. The room was clean and comfortable in an annex, but the public areas and the communal dining tables are reminiscent of a hostel, not a hotel. Not... More

“This is a VERY old house so some of the rooms may be a little sloped or slanted. This was a problem for me as it made me feel a little dizzy. Management were very accommodating about moving me to a room without a slope. If this is a problem for you, you may want to ask ahead of time for a room without a slope.”
