This was our second visit and certainly will be our first choice for any future trips to this area. We had booked for a week but ended up staying nearly two. Can't fault the welcome and Helen, Richard and Ivan couldn't have done more to make our stay comfortable. Plenty of complimentary snacks and tea/coffee in the room and a... More

Had a great stay here, dog friendly, hosts were very welcoming, used it as an overnight stop and would have happily stayed longer, great location and lovely breakfast. Good place to use as a base if exploring the Lake District. Good access and parking. Being next door to a dog friendly pub that sells good food.

We stayed here for three nights. We were warmly welcomed by Richard with tea and coffee and a lovely slice of Victoria sponge. We had booked a family room which was tastefully decorated and spacious with an en-suite bathroom. The room has a fridge and a good range of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and biscuits including kitkats! There was a... More

Some friends and I recently did a 4 day walk around the northern Lake district, staying in 5 different B&Bs. We unanimously concluded that Scales Farm was THE best B&B we stayed in. (Indeed it's probably the best we've ever stayed in and we've stayed in a few over the years). By all measures - the welcome, the comfort and... More

We stayed at Scales Farm whilst a group of friends stayed at the bunkhouse next door... They were all very jealous! Hot shower, warm room, comfortable bed, huge breakfast - there was nothing not to like. The owners are absolutely lovely and nothing is too much trouble. My fella is lactose intolerant and they had got him lacto free milk... More

Stayed for one night with our 11 year old son, in a double room with extra z bed. The owners are very welcoming and helpful, when we arrived we were served coffee and cake, lovely! We had been out walking that day in the unseasonal snow and had very wet boots (son managed to find the deepest snow!), Helen allowed... More

Nestling on the slopes of Blencathra, 6 miles from Keswick and with spectacular views across the central fells, Scales Farm offers quality accommodation and a superb location to explore the Lake District. The 17th century farmhouse features a welcoming traditional beamed lounge with a wood-burning stove and breakfast room available to customers at all times, ample private parking, secure bicycle... We stayed here Thurs-Sat, a short 2 night stay and this was everything we needed. The room was lovely and comfy, the shower was tremendous, the benefit of a fridge in the room was great with the added addition of an offer of soft drinks and water, the breakfast was superb and generally just all the little touches that we... We were attending the Wainwright Memorial Lecture at Rheged this Oct and had discovered Scales Farm B&B whilst on a walk the previous year and being next door to The White Horse Pub and at the foot of Blencathra it seemed just right for our trip. It was perfect, great rooms, fluffy towels, hot showers and a lovely breakfast. We... More

Of all the B&B's we stayed at in the UK on our trip Scales Farm was the most welcoming and friendliest. We received a warm welcome despite arriving fairly late at night due to a problem with our rental car. The next morning at breakfast which was delicious, we received helpful tips on where to walk, were lent a map,... More
