Clean rooms which could benefit from a wee modernisation but nice bed linen and towels. Hearty breakfast with quality ingredients. Helpful host nice blonde waitress but grumpy dark haired bar waitress. Otherwise fine although room rates on the high side considering facilities on offer.

We had a brilliant night here last Sunday. Great food (hope you are hungry), great selection of own brewed ales, genuinely friendly atmosphere, and an entertaining quiz. We would go out of our way to try and visit another time. Just a word of advice- you really do need to book, it is very busy/popular.

Hi, we recently had an evening in the Strands. The food choice and quality was second to none with a very generous portion. The choice of their own real ales was also very good and reasonably priced. We stayed for the Sunday quiz, which was free and good fun.

Everything a classic Lakeland pub should be - Fantastic real ale made in the next building. Fresh, hearty food at fair prices, a beer garden to die for and friendly, fun staff. Everyone should visit this place if they unsure what the phrase 'Best of British' truly means.

We stayed here for our first wedding anniversary as a base to take on Scafell Pike. The staff are friendly and the food is amazing - we ate here both nights we stayed - the steak and ale pie after Scafell Pike was a particular highlight! There is plenty of choice for breakfast and the food is fresh and good... More

The bar area is great, with a super range of beverages and the atmosphere really comes to life in the evenings. They offer a good choice of meals and the food was delicious. We stayed two nights over Friday and Saturday, staying in the executive room. I think this was the only room that was ensuit and the bath room... More

Extremely welcoming staff.Spent two nights her and it was very comfortable. The owner I believe looks after the breakfast, and its fantastic. The bar is really well managed, with no delays or long waits, the guy managing it certainly has things running smoothly. Perfect place and live music on Saturdays. they deserve to be busy as a reward for a... More
