Probably the best Steak and Ale Pie in England. Don't expect to leave this place with any room left for even one pea. The generous portions are are also very reasonably priced. They serve locally brewed beers so everyone is catered for. Very Highly recommended if you have been out for the day working up a ravenous appetite.

Situated in a nice little village this popular pub does draw the crowd so be sure to book your evening meal in advance.Friendly staff ,great real ales and good food . The location near Wastewater is ideal for access to Scaffold and other great walks.

Nether Wasdale is a brilliant place to base your visit to Lakeland with both the highest mountain, the deepest lake and golden beaches within easy reach. The Strands sits nicely into this environment and is a popular place to eat and drink with it's own microbrewery. The food is plentiful and hearty and unlikely to disappoint after a strenuous day... The Strands owners Mark and Lesley redeemed our stay in Nether Wasdale. Unfortunately, we booked to stay over the rd at the Screes. After a long day we arrived in Nether Wasdale and had a drink. After which we could not drive and found out that both village pubs/restaurants were fully booked for dinner (Screes never advised this at check-in!... More

Clean rooms which could benefit from a wee modernisation but nice bed linen and towels. Hearty breakfast with quality ingredients. Helpful host nice blonde waitress but grumpy dark haired bar waitress. Otherwise fine although room rates on the high side considering facilities on offer.

We had a brilliant night here last Sunday. Great food (hope you are hungry), great selection of own brewed ales, genuinely friendly atmosphere, and an entertaining quiz. We would go out of our way to try and visit another time. Just a word of advice- you really do need to book, it is very busy/popular.

Hi, we recently had an evening in the Strands. The food choice and quality was second to none with a very generous portion. The choice of their own real ales was also very good and reasonably priced. We stayed for the Sunday quiz, which was free and good fun.

Everything a classic Lakeland pub should be - Fantastic real ale made in the next building. Fresh, hearty food at fair prices, a beer garden to die for and friendly, fun staff. Everyone should visit this place if they unsure what the phrase 'Best of British' truly means.
