Lovely hotel, great staff, very convenient for getting about locally in Maryport, and the best breakfast for sure... but... very little in the way of soundproofing. I was in Room 5, don't book this room if you like peace. Noise from bar below until chucking out time as the bar is open to non-residents, and the family room is located... More

Fancied a day out of Carlisle so made a short trip to Maryport and popped into the Golden Lion for a spot of lunch. The Golden Lion has been refurbished and has a lovely spacious bar and dining areas .Ideally located near the seafront it is a beautiful setting for lunch. Staff extremely friendly and attentive and the food was... More

Loved this hotel. Staff were all so friendly and attentive. The room was bright and clean. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Only downside was that we were only there for one night. We would love to have stayed for a second

My company booked this for me as it was close to an engineering business that I was visiting. Maryport has a very run down look to it and is in need of some investment or regeneration which was a bit of a shame. The hotel was having bits done to it on my arrival so was in a bit of... More

An overnight stay whilst in the area for a family party. Very friendly staff on reception and the bar. Room (3) is a nice size although the bathroom is a little on the small size The shower took a long time to set a constant temperature and was not very powerful There is nowhere to put the towels, the room... Company booked me into this hotel and to my surprise it turned out to be an absolute jewel. Nice size room, very comfortable bed with very good decor. Very good choice for breakfast. Cereals, full English or vegetarian option. Full English was very tasty and nice and hot. Happily recommend.

It was very good to spend another overnight stay at the Golden Lion and meet its friendly owner Phil Cueto again. As before, we enjoyed a delicious dinner and a hearty breakfast sitting in the window with the view down to the harbour. Hope to go there again before too long.

I called the hotel at midday on a Monday to see if there were rooms available for that night and was greeted by receptionist Diane who was very helpful. There was a room - an executive room and it was available for the two nights required. When we arrived we were again greeted by Dianne who was enthusiastic and very... More

An excellent stopover on our walking holiday in the Lake District. The rooms were recently referbed, the food excellent - try the paella - and the staff so friendly. Although Maryport may not itself be in a tourist class, it is so close to those areas that are. Worth a look.
