In remote Borrowdale in the tiny village of Stonethwaite. Welcome watering hole for Hikers. Inside it is not as oldie-worldie as I would like but it's still nice. Very efficient & helpful barman. Nearby there is a bonus for Twitchers as we actually could SEE Cuckoos, not just hear them. We saw 2 fairly close, and 4 higher up in...

In the hamlet of Stonethwaite this is a real walkers' hotel / pub. We stayed for 4 nights. The welcome is warm and the room was spacious and comfortable with a bath and powerful shower. Breakfast is great, home made granola or cereals with fruit and a menu of inclusive cooked meals. Really sets you up for the day, as...

This is a charming and well run hotel with good food. From checking in to checking out we all thought this was an excellent place to stay. The service team who were predominantly Eastern European boys ( where will we be after Brexit!), were absolutely great, fantastic service from all of them with nice charm and sense of humour which...

Visited here for lunch on Thursday 4th May part way through a huge walk of the lakes. They were still serving food when I arrived and chose the steak and ale pie with chunky chips. I wasn't impressed overall as I wasn't approached at by any member of staff once my food arrived and so wasn't made to feel particularly...

The hotel sits in the splendid English lakes in the tiny hamlet of Stonethwaite with many splendid walks starting at its front door. The rooms are to a high standard, clean, and with very good ensuite facilities. The staff are charming. Best of all, at the end of the day after a long walk the restaurant food is very very...

A lovely setting granted. Overall overpriced for what you get...BUT there is no mobile phone signal which is not mentioned on the website. We had a business problem + lost credit card to sort which was very difficult to deal with via a coin box phone!! Hard working staff.

We were looking for somewhere for lunch, and followed a sign advertising this hotel about half a mile from the road we were on. The approach road is narrow, but at the end is excellent parking for the hotel, and on entering the bar, we were greeted by friendly staff and a roaring fire. My mother-in-law asked for a small...

I first saw this place in early Feb-17 however they were closed for the Winter [opens Mid Feb] so we took a gamble. I was slight sceptical as websites often overstate their claims, this place however fully met with those expectations. The rooms are very comfortable and relaxing. The location is truly wonderful. Typically the only through traffic being the...

Having had heart surgery a few months ago, my husband arranged for us to have a relaxing break in Borrowdale, as part of my recovery. He chose the Langstrath because of its location, menus and of course, the real ales! And we weren't disappointed. Our room, no.5, was really clean with a very comfortable bed. The views are stunning both...

My partner chose Borrowdale for my first visit to the Lake District, and so I was charged with the task of finding accommodation! Some of the larger hotels were very expensive, this delightful Inn had a two night dinner, bed and breakfast offer, with the option of a third night for a reduced price. Menu looked good, rooms looked comfortable....
